Now that the nursery is 100% done – YAY!, I have quite the wish list / to do list on deck for new projects throughout the house. Some are big, some are small, but they are all very doable. My wheels have been spinning and I have been coming up with lots of fun things to try, but have been so focused on finishing up Simon’s room the last several months, that everything else has gone to the backburner. I mentioned Ted was off work for a week after we got out of the hospital which was beyond awesome! There were days when he was getting a little stir-crazy, so he would take Henry out to run errands or go to the gym and let Henry play in the daycare room. While he was home though, he asked what he could do around the house. Of course, I couldn’t get a pen & paper fast enough to get everything written down and prioritized! We got more flowers for the back patio and the outdoor sectional (see outdoor posts here & here) and one other thing he knocked off the list was updating our formal living room light fixture. This room is one of my favorites in the house and was one of the first to be completely furnished & decorated. Ironic though, since its a formal living room and we rarely sit in it except for on an occasional Friday night I’ll say, “let’s go have a drink in the formal!”. Ted says, “ok” and off we go. When my mom or mother-in-law are in town, we’ve had coffee or a cocktail in there as well. Ok, enough rambling about the room. I need to get to the LIGHT! The old light was one of those basic “boob” lights. There is not much to them, so when I saw this post by the ever-so-talented Pam of Simple Details blog, I knew it was just the quick, easy & inexpensive project I could have Ted take on! I made a few minor adjustments to her tutorial, but the rest is the same!
Supplies:
Martha Stewart Wales Circle Mirror & Hampton Bay Flush Mount Fixture (both from Home Depot)
Rub’N’Buff (applied to the edge of the flush mount & the screws of the circle mirror)
And…
Such a glitzy & fun difference!
What do you think? Better than the old?! I will post pictures of the full room someday, but for now, use your imagination! There are pops of yellow & gold throughout the mainly light gray & charcoal color palette.
Later this week I hope to finish up the Outdoor Oasis series & share the rest of the décor. Other than that, I am going to start working on a mood board for my main floor powder room. We are going to paint and do a little updating 🙂
Thanks for reading and please stop by again!

I will keep you in mind if I stumble upon one somewhere. Thanks for stopping by – I hope you will come back again. Have a great holiday season! ~ Rachael
