Hump day is here and so is my Fall Front Porch post! My very first front porch post is here! And it is all decked and ready for Fall. I’ve wanted to decorate a porch for Fall for years and today, I get to share it all with YOU! Read on for my Simple Tips for How to Decorate Your Front Porch for Fall.
A LOOK AT OUR FALL FRONT PORCH
I finished decorating the porch for Fall this weekend and luckily, we had beautiful weather to be able to take pictures of it. We’ve been in our home since May of 2012 and it’s the first year I’ve added any Fall touches to it!
I have to say, I love pulling in the driveway or playing in the yard with the boys and seeing it! I didn’t do much fall decorating INSIDE this year, but enough so that I could get into the Fall & Halloween spirit.
SIMPLE TIPS FOR HOW TO DECORATE YOUR FRONT PORCH FOR FALL
1 | Decide on your color scheme.
This year, I wanted to decorate my porch with yellow, orange, black, white and gold. I knew those colors would be easy to find and easy to work with! And let’s be honest, almost everything I decorate has a touch of black, white and gold in it! Classic and neutral 🙂
2 | Stick with classic Fall elements.
I wanted it to feel cozy and warm with lots of texture and pops of color. The yellow mums and orange pumpkins brought in some bright touches.
Mums and pumpkins are Fall decorating essentials, but I wanted to also add some dimension and height. I placed a bale of hay in each corner and then tucked a cornstalk behind it and leaned it against the wall. I picked up a slew of white and orange pumpkins and multi-colored gourds in various sizes and scattered them around the bales of hay.
We had a couple of black lanterns I wanted to incorporate into the space, so I set them on top of and next to the hay!
3 | Give it some personality.
I added a tiny bit of flare by painting the pumpkins [I used a variety of techniques] and adding pom pom burlap ribbon to the lanterns and cornstalks.
And I also filled the black lanterns up with gourds and pumpkins instead of a traditional LED candle.
PRO TIP: Use plant stands to give your pumpkins a boost! The hay bales provide a raised surface to plop pumpkins and lanterns on. You can also place a pumpkin on a a plant stand to add another layer of dimension and stagger the height of your decor items.
And, in case I haven’t told you guys already – we basically bought our home because we fell in love with the front door. My heart still flutters for it 2 years later!
Now, I am off to have lunch and shop with my mom! Yesterday we spent the day cleaning, organizing and purging the house so now we’re treating ourselves to a girl’s afternoon 🙂
