Monday is here and nearly over, thankfully! It feels great to be back and posting about something other than the One Room Challenge. Although it has been taking up quite a chunk of my time, I still felt like by only posting about the guestroom revamp, I was neglecting my other projects. Of course, by blogging about them must mean I am a multi-tasking queen. I also didn’t want to bore my readers with the same stuff each week 🙂 Only 2 more weeks of the ORC left. 2 more weeks.
I always talk about all of the multiple projects going on around the house, but working on them vs. working on them, photographing them, editing those photos and then writing a post about the project, are two very different things, as you can imagine. I truly am working towards finding a method to the madness when it comes to blogging; creating a posting schedule, coming up with new topics (any input would be welcomed & very helpful!) and carving out certain times of the day / week to just focus on blog-related tasks. I will get there eventually, but for now, I am just excited to be sharing new stuff today!
Awhile back, I started to slowly tweak a few things in our upstairs guest / boy’s bathroom. I replaced the mirror (twice), found some new art, added a few décor items, painted the vanity (more on that this week) and gave the vanity light fixture a quick & inexpensive makeover. The light wasn’t terrible, so I didn’t feel the need to replace it, but it wasn’t great either.
This is sort of a before of the entire bathroom. There WILL be an after at some point 🙂 You can’t really see the dingy, frosted globes and the blinding bulbs, but trust me. They are there.
A couple of swaps later, it looks like a whole new light!
Here is what I did:
I replaced the awful fluorescent-looking, spiral LED bulbs with 28 watt halogen bulbs. They are not the antique Edison bulbs, but they are clear, so you can see the wiring inside. Pretty neat.
Lastly, I happened to be at Lowes one day and noticed they sell replacement globes for pendant & vanity lights for only a few bucks.
I knew I hated the frosted globes currently on the fixture, so I grabbed 3 of these to take home and see how they would look.
Swap, swap and voila!
I am still learning how to take good photos in a windowless room, but I hope you get the general idea. I only had to spend about $20 to update the light. It really does give the whole bathroom a new look & feel. The tiny specks in the glass are reflected on the walls and give a kind of cool effect. Definitely worth the few minutes it took to switch out the bulbs and globes versus buying a brand new fixture. In some cases, I think just switching out the type of bulb could make a HUGE difference. Sometimes you just have to make do with whatcha got!
Next up in this bathroom is to install the new knobs on the freshly painted bathroom vanity. I think I found the winner. It is a twist on the pulls in my inspiration photo I shared here.

The color I chose is pretty similar as well. Can’t wait to check that off my list and share with you all!
Getting back into blogging mode this week means more is on the way! More in the bathroom and of course, week #5 of the One Room Challenge this Thursday! In week #4’s post, I shared a few shots of my recently reupholstered cane chair and am working on a post full of pictures of the process. It was a grueling couple months of Wednesday night upholstery class, but I heart how it turned out. Thank you all for your super sweet comments – I really, really appreciate it!
The room overall, has come a loooong way, but let’s just say I will be spending a lot of time in there in the next 2 weeks. I hope to be able to come up for air soon!
I hope you’ve had a great start to your week and thanks for reading!
