Hey, hey! The last Thursday of the month is here which means it’s time for another My Dollar Store DIY post! Summer doesn’t officially arrive until later in June, but isn’t Memorial Day weekend the unofficial welcoming of summer after all?! Well I know Summer has been on the brain for awhile around here since school is out this week! Today, we are sharing our “All Things Summer” ideas in hopes to inspire you to make and decorate using supplies from your local dollar store.
Although my go-to colors are fairly neutral, in the summertime, I’m in a totally different frame of mind. Bring on the bold and bright colors! The lush green of the grass and the gorgeous, vibrant flowers adorn the yards of the neighborhood and I can’t help but want to bring some color indoors. This month, I decided to scoop up a package of mini pom-poms and create these super fun DIY Colorful Pom-Pom Napkin Rings perfect for summer entertaining!
Want to know the coolest part about this DIY? Not only was I able to snag the bag of poms at Dollar Tree, but I had the rest of the supplies on hand! Better yet, the main item is something WE ALL HAVE ON-HAND. Not sure where to look? How about your kitchen!
SUPPLIES

mini pom poms [I used 2 packages of 80] – $2
hot glue gun + hot glue sticks – $0 [had on-hand]
scissors [my fave pair] – $0
empty paper towel roll [empty toilet paper rolls would work, too] – $0
INSTRUCTIONS
Yep, you got it! Grab your empty paper towel roll and a pair of scissors and cut the roll into approximately 1.5″ rings.
I was able to cut 8 rings from one tube.
Next, take your hot glue gun and apply it across the front of the cardboard ring, from side-to-side covering about an inch around at a time. Then, place a pom-pom on the hot glued area one by one and keeping them tight together. You don’t want to see any of the paper towel roll showing!
Continue to add hot glue and poms until you’ve worked your way around the entire ring. Take a peek at the ring and make sure you’ve covered the roll pretty well. You can even go back through and add a pom here and there to cover the sides if you see any cardboard peeking through!
I ended up with about 30 pom-poms per ring.
I didn’t follow any particular color pattern. I simply grabbed the nearest pom-pom and added it to the ring. Although I tried to not double-up and add 2 of the same color right next to each other. Other than that, I was completely random about it and I love how each one is slightly different. You could make smaller rings and use less poms or pack them more tightly together.
It just depends on what type of look you want.
Gold flatware | striped napkins | rocks glasses | pineapple swizzle sticks | white plates
This was such a fun project! I joked that I was ditching the boys for the afternoon to play with pom-poms because after I made these, I wanted to keep making more! Maybe I’ll start whipping up sets of pom-pom napkin rings as a side biz. Who wants one?!
I have a pretty good feeling you’ll see these cuties show up on one of my next tablescapes. An all pink and red one would be cute for Valentine’s Day or a pink and orange one would’ve worked well on last year’s Simple Summer Table. You could easily make these DIY colorful pom-pom napkin rings in different color combos for various occasions! I told you when I made my DIY No-sew Pom-Pom Trim Curtains that I had been dying to add poms to something, ANYTHING for awhile…well, the feeling still remains!
