With all of the nursery design and decor gab here on the blog lately, I decided it was time to pause on the nursery and share a little life update…more specifically, a BUMP-date…with you all! We are just past the 28 week mark with our third little one who’ll be joining us early this summer. In case you haven’t heard [or seen the completely neutral nursery design], we decided to wait and be surprised with the gender! Will our new addition be the third boy of the pack or we will welcome our first little lady? Oh, the suspense!!
With our first, we also waited. We welcomed him in July of 2012. With our second, T was dying to know, so we found out. They weren’t able to tell the gender at our first ultrasound, so we made an appointment at a specialty 3-D ultrasound boutique and had them seal up an envelope for us to take with us. We decided we weren’t going to do a big gender reveal party, but rather saved the envelope to open up on Christmas morning 2013. It was just T, the biggest and I there by Christmas tree crying and laughing and joking about life with 2 little dudes! The littlest was born in May of 2014 and his nursery was the early focus of the blog and being able to document my progress on all of the DIY nursery projects was the main reason I started This is our Bliss!
Now, fast-forward 4 years and we are just a couple of months away from adding a fifth member to our fam!
In case you missed it, here is our pregnancy announcement we shared just after New Year’s!
Our game of family telephone ended in a surprise for the littlest…Except, not really. This was taken so early on that we didn’t make a big deal about it and they didn’t seem to pay much attention to what we were doing. Which surprised us a little since the biggest can read and was quoting the letterboard message on repeat that day! We officially told them the news on Christmas day.
So, let’s get into it a bit — The first trimester of this pregnancy was tough! I was so sick! And not necessarily all pregnancy-related illness! Before we found out we were expecting, I went through a couple months of on-again, off-again upper respiratory infections and bronchitis in the Fall. Then, the nausea and exhaustion set in those first several weeks, but I tried to carry on to get through Thanksgiving and Christmas – such a busy time and stressful time anyways!! Right after Christmas, I went down with pneumonia and into the New Year with it. Our whole house was sick over Winter Break. Just when things started looking up in January, February rolled around and we got hit the flu bug. Just when I was supposed to be enjoying the blissful 2nd trimester!
We did find out that I had partial placenta previa early on, but we were given the fabulous news last week at our most recent doctor appointment and ultrasound that the placenta has shifted and is no longer in a dangerous position. Suuuch a sigh of relief! I had the condition with our first and was monitored closely throughout the pregnancy and ultimately had a c-section at 37 weeks. Baby #2 was a schedule cesarean at 37 weeks as well.
Now, here we are ready to embrace the final chapter of this whirlwind of a pregnancy! We’ve been chipping away at the nursery over the last several weeks and have a couple weeks left to complete it before the One Room Challenge Reveal. We technically didn’t need the baby’s room to be ready until later this summer since he or she will be in a bassinet in our room, but there’s nothing like a blog challenge with a hard deadline to get me in gear!
So many things have felt the same, but also different when comparing this pregnancy to the first two.
Am I tired?…Yes.
Do I want to eat alllll the carbs, alllll the time?… 100%.
Back-pain?…Check!
Starting to feel massive kicks and nudges and pokes and prods all day, all night?….You got it.
But am I treasuring all of these “inconveniences” a wee bit?….Absolutely.
This most likely will be our last baby and that has definitely been striking a chord with me lately! As if pregnancy doesn’t make you emotional enough as it is! While I don’t mean to paint a doom and gloom picture, but these are all real things that I’ve been experiencing! I will say that I’ve been able to sleep quite well this time around. It guess it helps that I’ve been hitting the pillow around 8 pm each night ha!
The boys are so so excited for their “baby” to arrive and in fact, the littlest asks every single day if the baby is here yet. The biggest, on the other hand has a countdown of our due date and reminds us how many days are left! They both have names picked out…and while they’ve changed a bit, the newest ones seemed to have stuck. Right now, the boys have it narrowed down to Mocha if it’s a girl [our friends’ dog’s name ;)], John if it’s a boy. But the littlest is adamant that the baby be named after him…or Papa. He said we could go with Papa, too.
I honestly haven’t taken many “bump” pics, but I did snap an overhead one last week.

And there’s that belly!
I had to document the fact that I had on real clothes, but not too long after I was right back in my maternity yoga pants and t-shirt probably eating a bowl of cereal or perhaps a bowl of ice cream 🙂 Yes, those two things have been my thing.
And here is our little nugget up close and personal…
We are taking maternity photos as a family next week, so I’ll be sure to pop back in with another Bumpdate in the next few weeks!
Thanks for letting me get a little personal today. We’ll be back to our regularly scheduled programming this week with a Week 4 nursery update for the One Room Challenge!!
Have a wonderful day, friends!

April 25, 2018 at 7:13 PMAww this is such a happy post Rachael! So excited for you! We didn’t find out with our first or third either (and like you, did with our second), and our third was the biggest surprise of my life! I thought I had it all figured out by then, but not so much 🙂 Such a beautiful moment no matter boy or girl. Hope you have a wonderful rest of your pregnancy!
