I know. I can hardly believe it myself, but our third little man is officially ONE! We celebrated his first birthday at the end of June at our house over dinner with family. I wanted to keep things simple, so I decided to put up a few decorations and of course served the birthday boy up with a smash cake. Mainly as entertainment for the adults! Here are a few snapshots from his mini soiree, a Mr. ONE-derful First Birthday Party!
We welcomed Winston on June 20, 2018 [which feels like yesterday, btw] and here we are now celebrating his first birthday!
A simple Mr. ONE-derful themed 1st birthday party in black, white and gold with touches of bowties and topped off with a crown.
It was just perfect for our little guy!
MR. ONE-DERFUL FIRST BIRTHDAY PARTY DETAILS
Since it was a very small group of us celebrating, I knew I didn’t need to pull out all the stops, but still wanted to do a little decorating in honor of the birthday boy!
I put up a gold Mr. ONE-derful banner across the back sliding door and then added with this mini black bow-tie bunting to it. I put them up using my favorite mini clear command hooks. The same hooks I use for every birthday party banner! I almost ordered another package of the bowtie paper bunting to hang from the kitchen chandelier over the table, but didn’t think of it until later!
I think $11 is a steal for all of the cutting and tying of ribbon I would’ve had to do. Plus, you’d have to buy all the different individual spools of ribbon.
Absolutely worth it in my opinion!!
I decided to opt out of a ton of balloon bouquets for this party, but still ordered a large metallic gold “1” balloon to have filled up. We normally do all of our balloons and grab any last minute decorations at Party City the morning of the party. He loved bopping the big balloon around!
His brothers always love having balloons to play with during birthday weekends, too.
We ordered a 6″ inch smash cake from our local Mariano’s with simple black and white stripes for Winston and then cupcakes for the rest of us. I added little gold and white flags leftover from my Galentine’s Day Party.
We had some minor issues with the order, so I ended up having to write on his little cake with frosting myself. The lettering was not neat, but he did not care ha!
We grilled steaks [with plenty of yummy apps and sides including my Spicy corn dip and stuffed mushrooms] and enjoyed the cupcakes for dessert, while Winston got to indulge in a cake all to himself. And he nearly devoured it all!
We could not stop laughing.
He showed zero emotion. He had no facial expression. In fact, he made one motion and one motion only. He lowered his arm down to grab cake and then lifted his arm up to slowly stuff it in his mouth!
I think we were all waiting for some big reaction, but he was as cool as a cucumber. As if he’d been diving into dessert on a regular basis!
I bet we snapped 100 pictures of him eating his cake.
Although I still can’t wrap my head around the fact he’s one and oh, how I want time to slow down more than anything, it sure did make my mama heart happy to celebrate him anyways! Thanks for taking a peek at our little guy’s first birthday celebration!
