I have been so back and forth about putting out any Fall decorations this year. My initial plan was to *only* add Fall touches to the front porch since it’s now spruced up and ready to be seasonally decorated. But after scooping up some gorgeous velvet pumpkins a couple weeks ago for $1 each, I suddenly had a vision. And I brought that vision to life, so today I’m sharing How to Style a Cozy Fall Mantel with Pumpkins and Greens!

I’m thrilled to be joining Krista from The Happy Housie and 30 other bloggers today as we share our styled mantels for Fall as part of the Seasonal Simplicity Series!
Truthfully, this might be the only nook getting fall-ified this year, but I’m okay with it! It really brings Fall into the entire Family Room just by having the mantel decorated for the season!
I just wasn’t in the mood to drag out the Fall decor bins this year, but when I spotted these pumpkins at Dollar Tree [the ones you saw me use in the mini faux pumpkin topiary post], I knew they’d be a perfect and inexpensive alternative to pulling all the old stuff out!
It’s not that I want to start accumulating more stuff, but for $13 in pumpkins and $5.98 in Eucalyptus stems, my mantel was done and my Fall heart was happy!
Plus, you can’t really ever have too many cute pumpkins, can you?!
Here is what I did to decorate my mantel for Fall this year!
I’ve included a source list and image gallery at the end of this post, so be sure to scroll down if you’re looking for something specific!
HOW TO STYLE A COZY FALL MANTEL WITH PUMPKINS AND GREENS
First, I cleared everything off the mantel to start with a clean slate. I decorated the mantel very simply for Summer, so there wasn’t much to take off! In fact, I’m pretty sure it looked pretty close to last year’s Simply Blue & Fresh Greens Summer Mantel.
Next, I added a stack of books that I flipped around with the spine at the back to each side of the mantel. One stack was already there and the other stack I gathered from other areas. It’s always best to shop your house when looking for missing pieces.
On one side, I added a copper mercury glass pumpkin on top of the books. On the other side, I added a black and gold metal geometric figurine.
Then, I took my DIY mini faux pumpkin topiary and placed it next to the metal piece.
After that, I took my 2 small bouquets of Eucalyptus clippings [$2.99 each from Trader Joe’s] and placed them across the middle section of the mantel. I put the stems toward the back and then let the tops of them drape over the front edge.
Next, I started with the largest pumpkins and spread them out about 4-5 inches from each other and placed them towards the back.
Then, I layered in the small and medium-sized pumpkins slightly in front of the large ones at the back.
At the very end, I nestled this framed black & white abstract art piece behind a few pumpkins just to add a bold, modern touch. I always love some contrast. I keep using this in different places around the house and since it was a $7 digital download. This way I can have it printed as many times as I want!
After a couple little tweaks, it was styled just how I wanted it. Nothing is evenly spaced out or symmetrical, but that’s what I love about it.
And when I flip the fireplace on, the vibe in here is instantly cozy!
It’s obviously still too hot outside for a fire, but here in Chicago, unfortunately it probably won’t be too much longer. Ugh!
I swapped out a lighter throw blanket for this super warm and fluffy gray barefoot dreams blanket on our swivel rocker chair. We have the animal print version on the couch. We always keep a few barefoot dreams within arms reach so we don’t fight over them ha! They make the perfect gifts if you are trying to think ahead for the holidays!
In the basket near the fireplace, I tucked a deep yellow and gray plaid throw blanket inside. Then I stuck a couple of faux Mongolian fur pillows inside too.
Cozy and stylish! This nook of the Family Room is the main focal point of the entire kitchen and family room spaces, so I’m pretty sure I’ll be okay with this view through Halloween and maybe even up until Thanksgiving! With neutral colored pumpkins in white, taupe, gold and a few rich green ones sprinkled in, it really is a full season Fall Mantel! Plus, I rarely decorate the mantel for Halloween [except a few years ago!] anyways!
I am so here for these textured pumpkins and drapey greens! When this fireplace starts up in a few weeks, you’ll find me right here with a glass of wine enjoying the view! Guaranteed.
Do you change out your mantel decor with the seasons? What season is your favorite to decorate it for?!
I would normally answer Christmas because I love seeing our stockings hung there. But admittedly, I am really loving this mantel look for Fall right now!

September 11, 2019 at 12:27 PMYour mantel is beautiful!!!! I, too, usually don’t do much for Halloween, except adding in a few jack-0-lanterns. I love the warmth and coziness that brings, and I love adding that into my home. May I ask where your swivel rocker came from ?? I’m in the market for new chairs…..
Happy Fall!
Rachael @ This is our Bliss
September 11, 2019 at 12:57 PMThank you, Dawn!! I feel like I should start doing a little more decorating for Halloween for my boys, but some of it is just SO in your face!! We’ve had this chair for almost 7 years and it was a custom ordered piece from a local furniture store by my parents’ in Iowa. If I can track down something similar, I will certainly let you know!!
