Tis the season for allll the parties and holiday get-togethers. I feel like there are some on the calendar each week starting now! Whether you’re getting together with girlfriends, neighbors or family, it’s always nice to take a little something with you as a thank you to your hostess! You can’t go wrong with a bottle of wine, but sometimes it’s nice to take something to go along with it. Today, I’m sharing my idea for a Homemade Gift in a Jar + Free Christmas Gift Tags I’m giving to all of you to use for your own gifting needs this holiday season!
I shared the recipe for my Easy Christmas Snack Mix earlier this week and today I’m showing you how I put it all together in a simple mason jar! The easiest thing for grab-and-go gifting because you can make several up ahead of time and then have them ready on-hand for your next holiday function.
HOW TO PUT TOGETHER A HOMEMADE GIFT IN A JAR + FREE CHRISTMAS GIFT TAGS
And if you’re like me, you’re always running around like a mad-woman trying to get out the door. Especially when it’s all 5 of us!!
And to keep things affordable, while still super cute, I purchased all of the ribbon, tulle and little disco ball embellishments from my local Dollar Tree.
I’ve also put together a darling Hostess Gift in a Mit for under $5 and 5 minutes!
I have a few friends also participating in this month’s My Dollar Store DIY, so be sure to take a peek at the end of the post to see what holiday decor and gift ideas they came up with!
SIMPLE HOMEMADE GIFT IN A JAR SUPPLIES
- small mason jar with lid
- red and gold mesh tulle
- black satin ribbon
- pack of mini gold disco ball ornaments
- curling ribbon
- scissors
- gift tags [see below for my free printable set!]
- gift item to place inside [I added my Easy Christmas Snack Mix to the jars!]
SIMPLE HOMEMADE GIFT IN A JAR DIRECTIONS
I can hardly call this a tutorial because it’s simply tying ribbon around a jar [ha] but I’ll tell and show you what I did!
First I cut about 20″ piece of tulle off the spool and then cut-it in half lengthwise. Set one piece aside and then cut the remaining piece into thirds. Set aside.
After that I cut a 20″ piece of black satin ribbon, laid it down and then put one piece of the cut tulle on top of it, centered on the black ribbon.
Next, I placed the mason jar in the center of the tulle & ribbon and tied both ends around the jar. After that I took the small cut pieces of tulle, the gift tag [with curling ribbon tied through the hole I punched] and the disco ball and placed it on the start of the knot I previously made.
Lastly tie the 4 beginning strands around the entire bundle to knot it off!
Once the embellishments were secure, I scooped some of the Christmas snack mix into the jar & put the lid on. Now the gift in a jars are ready to be gifted to just about anyone and everyone who could use a little holiday treat! Friends, neighbors, teachers and hostesses! You could attach a gift card to the tag and tie them both on together.
And now for the Free Printable Gift Tags I promised!
I created a set in black and white since I love this color combo all year-round. And then I also created a set of red and a set of green tags.

Simply hole-punch and attach to all of your packages this holiday season.
