How to Decorate for Spring for Free

When you have the itch to decorate for Spring, but don’t want to spend any money and you feel the impulse to decorate NOW, I can help! Because that is exactly what happened to me! With a baby napping in bed and the itch to sprinkle some Spring around the house, I had to get creative. And so can you. Today, I’m going to show you How to Decorate for Spring for Free. And you can apply it to anywhere in your home!

HOW TO DECORATE FOR SPRING FOR FREE

I’ll show you what I used, how I did it and some tips for applying my ideas to your own house. 

Decorating for Spring can be simple and I’d actually prefer it that way. 

I don’t say this often, but SOMETIMES less is more. And this year, I’m not going all out Spring in very many spaces. In fact, this little entryway table vignette might be it!

And as much as I loooove fresh flowers, they aren’t always necessary! You can get the whole Spring vibe without spending your money on even the most inexpensive bouquet at the grocery store! 

You can take my tips and grab even more inspiration from the rest of the ladies joining Krista of The Happy Housie today in the Seasonal Simplicity Spring Series. Today we are sharing our Spring Mantel and Vignettes in hopes to inspire you to do a little Spring decorating of your own. 

But remember, you don’t have to do much to satisfy that Spring decorating bug!

Here is what I did…

*FYI: I left the lamp, baskets, House Beautiful Book, leopard box and the black & white abstract framed art print. The rest of what I’m sharing today was in addition to these items I keep out year-round.

TIPS FOR FREE SPRING DECORATING IDEAS

TIP 1 || Use faux flowers.

Real ones are beautiful. But they do die and it can be costly to constantly replace them with fresh ones. Treat yourself every now and then, but by grabbing a few faux flower picks from places like Michaels, Hobby Lobby or Dollar Tree, you’ll save in the long run. 

I had a few flower picks in this peachy, light pink color and thought they looked great sort of spilling over the vase. 

If any trees or bushes were blooming yet, I’d surely be out there grabbing some free clippings to use if I didn’t have any faux flowers. Your yard is another fabulous place to gather free decor.

Pro tip: You can mix your faux florals with fresh flowers to elevate the look and create a fuller, more lush arrangement or centerpiece. I give you the step-by-step tutorial here.

2 || Spray-paint can do wonders.

Seriously. Never underestimate the power of spray-paint and it’s ability to transform something plain into something beautiful. I wanted to bring some bright and shiny gold onto the table, and while I could’ve grabbed any number of gold decor items from my stash, I thought this knobbed vase would add dimension and an edge to the vignette.

It was a pewter color before which was dark and heavy. But after 2 coats of my favorite gold spray paint, it now looks chic and edgy!

3 || Swap out your everyday decor for lighter colored items.

In this case, I’m referring to the coffee table books stacked on the table. I traded one that was there for a white one I had on my coffee table. And then I removed the black jacket from another one to reveal a lighter, gray spine.

Lightening and brightening a space definitely helps give off a Spring vibe.

Books are a great way to add height, personalization and a specific color palette to a space. I move mine around the house like musical chairs and pick them up occasionally from Amazon, HomeGoods or the thrift store.

4 || Find free printable art.

I had an old white 8″x 10″ frame to put the print in and again, by using a lighter color it really softens the look.

Especially when I have a lot of other bold elements going on!

And that’s really about it.

With these 4 tips, I was able to decorate for Spring for free.

At least in this one little space. But honestly, I could take on several other nooks by using the same method!
