A COLORFUL FALL FRONT PORCH
If you are just stopping in today for the first time, then welcome! Our home in Northern Illinois has a teeny tiny front porch that I love to spruce up a couple times per year. Fall being one of my favorites because I am such a sucker for mums and white pumpkins. I mean… who isn’t though?
Am I right?!
You really can’t get any more basic when it comes to Fall Front Porch decorating, but I do it anyways! You just can’t go wrong.
This was an early Fall porch shot before I swapped out the wreath and added the mums to my gold pots!
cardigan // tank // black jeans // snake booties
Anyone else buy mums and then 100% of the time end up going back for more at least once, if not twice?! Usually the same goes with pumpkins, too, but this year I held back and only bought a few 😉
Come and see all the Fall colors on our small porch plus the my new outdoor rug and doormat combo I’m so in love with!
TIPS FOR DECORATING YOUR SMALL PORCH FOR FALL
ONE // BUY MUMS IN ALLLL THE FALL COLORS
I couldn’t decide on a color scheme, so just went for a full-on Fall color story. The warm traditional autumn colors were calling my name this year [last year I was all about the pinks and purples on the porch] as I was decorating our mantel for Fall as well as the porch. I was really drawn to the tri-colored mums this year and added one to each of the tall planters by the door. Then I added a smaller tri-colored mum to low and wide terracotta planters I saved from last year and sprayed gold.
This is my favorite gold spray-paint and nothing in my home is safe!
Our large Summer planters were still doing well, so I pulled out the geraniums and placed a small mum in it’s place. I love how the flowers are spilling over the sides and adding even more color to the porch. I also placed a reddish / purple mum in another gold planter and put it on the side table near the bench.
TWO // ADD A FEW WHITE PUMPKINS
I picked up two medium-sized white pumpkins and a few smaller ones at the grocery store and put them down on the steps. Of course I wanted to buy a dozen more, but somehow managed to hold back. I love how the simplicity of the white pumpkins help balance out the rich colors of the mums.
A few mini faux pumpkins from my recently decluttered Fall bin also made their way to the side table. After cleaning out the basement storage closet with my mom over the weekend, I now know exactly what décor I have for each season. What a concept!! Feels so good to have less stuff in there
THREE // ADD HANGING BASKETS TO MAXIMIZE YOUR SPACE
Since our front porch is so small, I love adding hanging baskets. For one, you can see them so well from the street and two, I can see them looking out my office window 😉 I saved these cool textured planters from last year and just keep changing out the flowers.
FOUR // SWAP OUT YOUR FRONT DOOR WREATH
I found this burnt orange grass wreath at a thrift store last year for $5 and couldn’t wait to hang it! The colors are perfect for my warm color scheme.
FIVE // LAYER YOUR DOORMAT ON TOP OF A PATTERNED OUTDOOR RUG
“love fall most of all” doormat // plaid indoor/outdoor rug // booties
A new combo!
I’ve resisted the urge to change out our front door mat and rug for what feels like a long time. But in reality, its only been a little over a year ha! I’ve loved the striped bottom layer and the seasonally-neutral “Hey there, take care” doormat since we first got them, but I really wanted a Fall doormat!
There are so many cute ones out there right now! And these were under $35 for both!
Plus I’ve had a ball putting together new combinations, so much so that I wrote two posts – Layered Rug Ideas for Your Front Door and Doormat Layering Ideas Part 2.
I may even get a wild hair and put together a Fall Doormat Layering Inspo post – would you want to see one?!
And that’s all I have for our Colorful Fall Front Porch tour today! I hope you found a dose of outdoor inspiration!
