A Simple Red, White & Gold Christmas Mantel

Now let’s take a peek at our mantel this year…

SIMPLE RED, WHITE AND GOLD CHRISTMAS MANTEL

With a touch of black because I just can’t help myself. It’s stripped down and simple, and I should add, it feels like a very “2020” Christmas mantel to me?!

Although I went neutral with my Christmas décor in the Dining Room this year, I couldn’t fight the urge to add some red here on the mantel. Our family’s original stockings were deep red and ivory, so decided to dig them out from the bottom of a bin and hang them up. However, I forgot that Winston didn’t have a matching one to this set, so I grabbed a faux fur one from last year and stuck it right in the middle.

The stockings and ribbons are all different and quite honestly, my candlesticks keep tipping over, but you know what?

I love the feel of this imperfect, classic red, white and gold Christmas mantel.

The boys are thrilled to have stockings hung up and Winston is too young to notice his name isn’t on his! I have to check and see if Pottery Barn still makes these quilted stockings, but if not, maybe we take a fresh start and get 5 new ones for next year!

HOW I DECORATED THE MANTEL FOR CHRISTMAS THIS YEAR

• cleared everything off from my Fall Mantel
• hung up the stockings using command hooks at the back of the mantel near the wall
• laid 2 Trader Joe’s garland down over lapping each other in the middle and hanging off the sides
• nestled my twinkle lights in the garland [love that they are controlled by a remote!]
• added a red felt ball garland from year’s ago [similar one here]
• Layered in my brass candlestick holders with my new LED flameless tapers on each side [these are AWESOME & come with a remote, too!]

*Then turn the fireplace on and hope that the fresh garland doesn’t get too crispy by the time Christmas gets here! We turn it on every single day so fingers crossed!

The only new addition to the mantel this year was the candlesticks and I love having the extra glow. Since we have a TV above our mantel, I’ve never been able to burn real candles, but these flameless flickering ones look so real! They’re the same ones I put on my dining room table and love that they are safe and very kid-friendly. 

The come in packs of 8 and highly recommend!

The rest of the room is pretty “Christmas bare”, but will have my tree and bookshelves finished soon. We put our flocked tree up a few weeks ago and have been enjoying the simplicity of it with just the lights. This year has been a chaotic one and with all 3 kids home 24/7, my Christmas decorating time hasn’t arrived yet! But I plan to carve some out this week to finish.
