I’m finally getting the itch to add some Spring touches to the house and its probably because Spring feels so far away outside! I love adding hints of soft pastels throughout our home this time of year, but one space I wanted to tackle as part of some “Spring cleaning” was our Master Bedroom. And while I didn’t add any color, it feels so incredibly fresh and Springy! Today, I’m sharing my 5 Tips for a Neutral Spring Bedroom Refresh.

Who else has that Spring feeling?!
Are you cleaning like crazy? purging? decorating?
It always hits around this time of year. The urge to simplify and sprinkle some Spring cheer throughout the house! I feel like we spend all of January putting away Christmas décor and decluttering all the things and when March hits, its time for another round!
I was gifted this lovely rug from Mohawk Home and it spawned a simple Master Bedroom refresh just in time for Spring. Here is what I did and my tips for refreshing your own Bedroom!

5 TIPS FOR A NEUTRAL SPRING BEDROOM REFRESH
1 // ADD A RUG UNDER THE BED FOR TEXTURE / PATTERN
Even if you have carpet, place an area rug under the bottom half of your bed to break up flooring and add warmth & texture. In our case, break up the sea of beige carpet! Gosh I can’t wait until we replace the upstairs carpet. But in the meantime, I’ve added area rugs to all of the bedrooms to add texture, pattern, etc. [see the Nursery and the both Big Boy rooms here]
This particular rug is light and neutral with a subtle stripe. I love how the geometric lines of the rug pair so well with the abstract floral wallpaper accent wall. The rug is an off-white, so layering various shades of white, ivory, cream, tan, etc. keep the palette of the room light and neutral. There is a balance of true white and off-white, so it works in here for me.
It’s nice to have something new to greet me when I open the door to the room. I didn’t realize a rug was just the thing we were missing in here to pull the room together!
2 // SWAP OUT YOUR PILLOW COVERS & LAYER THEM ACROSS THE BED
If you know me, then you know there will never be a shortage of throw pillows over here! I’ve always kept the black and white euro shams as a constant on the bed and then rotate the pillow covers in the middle and front rows. I like to buy 18″ pillow covers to use on my three 20″ pillow inserts to be able to change up the look when I’m in the mood.
I found these tan ones with amazing texture and love how they’ll work in here year-round. The striped lumbar pillows are a few years old, but they’re timeless and I love how they look in front of almost any pillow – solid or patterned!
And as a bonus, swap out your pillowcases for these silk pillowcases as a treat to yourself. They feel amazing on your face and are supposed to be better for your skin and hair while you sleep. I love mine!
3 // PLACE A QUILT OR LIGHTWEIGHT BLANKET AT THE FOOT
Another easy and inexpensive way to change up the look in a space! Right now I have a King size Barefoot Dreams blanket across the bed. It’s easy to pull up and use on cooler nights in the Spring and Summer. Sometimes I’ll keep another comforter folded up at the bottom of the bed, but ever since we got our heated mattress pad cover, I haven’t needed anything quite so heavy and warm. We are absolutely obsessed with it. We turned it on an hour or so before we’re ready for bed. It’s heavenly to hop in a warm bed in the Winter. I can’t imagine life before it ha!
4 // CLEAR YOUR NIGHTSTANDS & SIMPLIFY THE DECOR
Normally, I’m a big fan of decorating your nightstand to make it stylish and functional, but sometimes you need to do a clean sweep and simplify. I took everything off, dusted the tops and then put only the lamps back on. After that I added fresh flowers [always grab them from Trader Joe’s], a leaning piece of art and a picture frame to my side.
On Ted’s side, I swapped out the art [and frame] for this neutral abstract print hanging over the nightstand and then put fresh greens and one decorative orb next to it. We’ll obviously keep a book, our phone and a glass of water by the bed each night, but I love how decluttered it looks and feels.
Sometimes a little Spring cleaning does wonders even in the smallest of spaces. I like to play musical chairs with my coffee table books, so I’ll find a good home for the stack that used to be here.
See how I decorate with coffee table books in these posts!
5 // STICK WITH A NEUTRAL PALETTE TO CREATE A SEASONLESS SPACE
I tend to start decorating each room with a neutral palette and then use small pops of color with items that can come and go based on my mood. Pillows, flowers, blankets or art are usually the pieces I use to bring color in, but I love how clean and fresh our bedroom feels without any color! This room can stay this way through the rest of the year and into next if I want! I still love our dark green drapes, but they are so dark they almost read gray or black so it works!
When you first set out to decorate a space, I recommend staying neutral when you select the larger & more expensive pieces – bedding, rugs, furniture, lamps, etc. Then you can add color in small bits based on what you love!
No matter what colors you use, the most important thing is to make sure your space is comfortable for all to enjoy 😉
Here are a few other neutral area rugs I’m loving:
I’ll be back next week with more Spring decorating ideas and you just might see a little bit of color 😉
Have a great day!
