HOW TO MAKE MERRY MISTLETOE MARGARITAS
We make our Christmas Morning Mimosas with cranberry juice and over the years, I’ve discovered that a splash of cranberry juice does wonders for my vodka sodas. But it also makes a great addition to your favorite margarita!
And this year, I stumbled upon the Sparkling Cranberry Juice Blend from Trader Joe’s and I have to say it’s divine. It is a blend of 3 juice concentrates [white grape juice, cranberry juice & lemon juice] & a cranberry puree.
So whether you make a trip to TJ’s to grab a bottle or just use regular cranberry juice, your margaritas are going to be extra merry this holiday season!
Here is what I do to make these Merry Mistletoe Margaritas…
MERRY MISTLETOE MARGARITA INGREDIENTS
- 1.5-2 oz. white tequila or tequila blanco [I use Casamigos]
- 6 oz. Sprite Zero
- 2-3 oz. sparkling cranberry juice [I use Trader Joe’s blend]
- 1 fresh lime
- 1 cutie orange
- handful of frozen cranberries
- Himalayan sea salt
- sugar
*Makes one cocktail
DIRECTIONS FOR MERRY MISTLETOE MARGARITAS
1 // Cut your lime in half. Set aside one half and then cut the other half into slices/wedges.
2 // Run the lime around the rim of your glass & then turn it over onto a plate of Himalayan sea salt [sometimes I do a mix of sugar & salt] The pink salt is so pretty on the rim! We bought our Himalayan salt in a grinder at Costco and I refill it with this bag. You can also get a refillable salt grinder here.
3 // Fill your glass with ice and then add tequila, sprite zero and sparkling cranberry juice.
4 // Then using a citrus squeezer [or your hand], top the glass with the other half of the fresh lime and the juice from half of a cutie orange.
5 // Next, roll your cranberries around in a small dish of sugar [or the salt / sugar mix if you want] and toss the cranberries into the glass.
*Pro tip: I keep a bag of cranberries in the freezer from Thanksgiving through New Year’s. Its such an easy way to garnish water, cocktails, mimosas or sprinkle on a grazing board for a splash of red this time of year.
6 // Finally, add a slice or wedge of lime to the rim and pop in a cocktail stirrer before serving up your Merry Mistletoe Margarita. Enjoy!
You can alter the amount of tequila based on what you like, as well as the amount of Sprite Zero vs. sparkling cranberry juice.
I can tell you that any combination will be delicious… as I tend to switch it up each time I make one!
I don’t know about you, but I’m about ready for happy hour! Merry, merry!
