Around Arizona // The Harlem Globetrotters @ The Footprint Center in Phoenix

Hello and happy Monday! I hope you had a nice weekend! No surprise ours was packed with the boys’ sports and activities. Today I’m kicking off a new series I’ve been wanting to start since we moved here. “Around Arizona” will showcase our adventures as we explore our new home state. Although I’ve been visiting since I was a little girl, there is so much I haven’t seen or done. Bring on the family fun as we experience the Southwest. Today, I’m sharing a few snapshots from Around Arizona // The Harlem Globetrotters @ The Footprint Center in Phoenix.

Although the Harlem Globetrotters travel around from city to city, it was our first time seeing them and our first time at The Footprint Center [the arena the Phoenix Suns play in]. The boys can’t wait to go back and watch the Suns play, although they’re still Chicago Bulls fans for now 😉

I have several other Arizona adventures to share from over the last 8 months, so eventually, they’ll all be found here where you can get caught up on our Around Arizona fun. Whether you live here or ever plan to visit, hopefully some of these spots will be experiences to add to your Arizona bucket list – sports venues, hikes, resorts, parks, restaurants & more.

Our family’s list is growing, too!

AROUND ARIZONA // THE HARLEM GLOBETROTTERS @ THE FOOTPRINT CENTER IN PHOENIX

My in-laws actually gifted our family tickets to see the Globetrotters for Christmas. Instead of traveling with an abundance of packages, she decided an experience in our new state would be a fun family gift. We are a basketball family, so when she saw the Harlem Globetrotters would be in Phoenix in March, she snagged some tickets.

How cute is the “ticket” she had made and then wrapped one up for each family member to open?!

We’ve had it hanging on the refrigerator since we got them and the boys have had a countdown going for the big day!

She found the tickets on Groupon at great rate, so if you’re looking for tickets near you, be sure to check there.

THE HARLEM GLOBETROTTERS

If you’re not familiar, The Harlem Globetrotters is an American exhibition basketball team. They combine athleticism, theater, and comedy in their style of play. Created by Abe Saperstein in 1927 in Chicago, Illinois, the team adopted the name Harlem because of its connotations as a major African-American community.

They tour arena across the country and put on quite a show! Their opponents are great sports, since the entire place is cheering for the Globetrotters!

Their ball-handling skills are second-to-none and they get the crowd amped up with their commentary and high-energy music!

Here are a few snapshots from our Saturday afternoon experience…

THE FOOTPRINT CENTER IN DOWNTOWN PHOENIX

As I mentioned, it was our very first time inside the Footprint center, but know we’ll be back plenty more for concerts [Imagine Dragons, New Kids on the Block & Rod Stewart a few shows taking place there this Spring] or Suns games. We are about 30 minutes from downtown Phoenix where the Footprint Center sits near other sports arenas, rooftop lounges, museums, theaters, art galleries and more than 200 restaurants. Downtown is also home to the Phoenix Convention Center and Arizona State University’s downtown campus.

On our way in, my jaw dropped to the floor when both big boys asked to hold my hand. Um, you don’t have to ask twice!!

Ted’s brother joined us as well. The boys always love their time with “Uncle Tommy”.

Off they go!

We had 2nd row seats, so it was so much fun seeing their smiles and amazement on their faces.

Plenty of snacks and then off to grab some merch at halftime!!

They sold basketballs at half-time and then offered autographs around the perimeter of the court immediately following the game.

Simon insisted on more merch and ended up with a plushy and sweatbands, plus snuck in a photo with the MC on the side.

Winston’s favorite part was Mr. G. Every 5 minutes he asked when “Globey” was coming back out ha!

They were fantastic. I highly recommend this as a family outing! It was interactive, high energy and entertaining. It was so much more than just a basketball game!

And after 2 hours of fun…

Some of us were wiped out and some of us were still dribbling our new basketballs and practicing our tricks 😉

*Parking was a breeze. There were several lots right next to the Footprint Center with $10 parking options. We also had great luck finding $10 parking when we went to Chase Field for our first Diamondbacks game last year.

We are so looking forward to more sporting events in downtown Phoenix as well as exploring the outdoors in the mountains and desert.

Any fun Spring Break plans coming up?!

If so, you might want to check out some of my Travel posts with some of my must-have travel essentials as well as vacation outfit inspo and more!

We’re sticking around here for the boys’ break, but have a quick staycation planned so I’ll be sharing more on that soon, too!

Have a great day 😉
