Tuesday is here and that means another Modern, Bold & Beachy Basement Guest Bathroom update for the Primp & Pamper Bathroom Refresh series hosted by Jeweled Interiors! Yes, week 3 has arrived [how, I don’t know] and today I have a simple, fast and FREE diy tutorial to share with you. Little by little I’ve been picking up decor items and accessories for the bathroom while I’ve been out running errands at Target, HomeGoods, etc. and let’s not forget about the beautiful light fixture and fabulous black and gold knobs I shared last week! But each time I get home with a load of goods, I kept coming up short on wall art finds. So, my friends, I decided to make my own!
I’m talking 5 minutes and totally free. Who can argue with that?!
Here is what I did to create the 5 Minute DIY black and white art print for one of the walls in our Basement Guest Bathroom…
I rounded up a couple of black Sharpie markers, a sheet of white cardstock paper, scissors and an old frame.
Next, I simply cut the paper to fit the opening of the mat in the frame which measured 5″ x 7″.
Then I began making different sized circles, ovals and dots, some filled in and others left open…
…Some were grouped in sections of two rows and others with three…
You’ll notice that I didn’t worry about each shape looking like the one before or the one after. They are all slightly different and some didn’t even quite get filled in all the way. I wanted it to feel hand-drawn, not like a print shapes off from the computer.
Once the paper was filled, I popped it into the frame and was ready to hang it up!
What’s funny is that the shapes I drew were inspired by the patterns on one of the littlest’s blankets. Of all places!
If you remember back to Week 1 of our Basement Guest Bathroom Refresh when I shared my mood board, then you might recall the two pieces of art hanging over the toilet. While I absolutely LOVE Minted, the art I was inspired by just wasn’t in the budget for this space. So once again, I decided to create my own.
The beach print!
We spent 8 days in Maui last March, so I scrolled through some of the photos I took and had one enlarged and printed to use and hang in the bathroom!
Two art prints with a similar look and feel I was going for in this bathroom space – Modern, Bold & Beachy!
What do you think?
One was free and the other cost under $6. Both frames were waiting patiently to be rescued from my stash. You’ve heard me talk about my frame closet before, right? Maybe I’ll give you a tour of it someday. MAYBE!!
The Maui photo pulls the dark and light shades of blue that are in my rug [you’ll see it next week!] and gives the space the pop of color it needs among all of the black, white, gray & gold. And as another touch of blue, this vase was one of the pieces that recently jumped in my cart and came home with me. I’m thinking I’ll add some flowers to it – fresh when company is coming and faux for every day.
Those new knobs sure do steal the show though, don’t they!
We have exactly one week left until reveal time, so let’s see what loose ends I’ve gotta tie up this week:
