Annnnd today is Friday! Not only is it Friday, but the weather was spectacular. It actually felt like what a day in April should feel like. The warm weather called for a few errands, a painting project & a trip to the park. I had a doctor’s appointment this morning and then Ted surprised me by taking the rest of the day off! Therefore he was able to help in the above listed activities versus playing golf, which I know he was itching to do! Gotta love’em. On to my painting project…
I was looking for something different to do above the dresser in the nursery. I knew I wanted to hang some frames aka another opportunity to showcase my gallery wall obsession. I envisioned it being rather eclectic with photos, art & typography prints (several DIY project posts coming soon on these), but I wanted to do something unique as a backdrop for the hanging pieces. This brings me to a little something I tackled this afternoon.
See my inspiration below…

Here is what I started with and 3 coats of paint later, I had this…
I picked up a 4′ x 4′ piece of peg board at Lowe’s for $8.27 & a few supplies and went to town. I ended up mixing all 3 colors on my swatch together since I had samples mixed of all of them. I didn’t want it to be too dark, but I also worried if the gray color was too light, there wouldn’t be enough of a contrast against the subtle gray wall color in the nursery. Tomorrow, we are going to plot out our hanging method & get it up on the wall. After that, I need to get busy on the fun part – what is going to be hung on this dark gray beauty! Also on the agenda for tomorrow, another painting project inside the closet 🙂
The colors we are testing out are Asparagus & Can’t Miss Lime (both by Valspar) I’ll of course post the after pics so you can see for yourself.
Lastly, here is the collection of fabrics that are going to be incorporated into the nursery in a variety of ways. I thought I would share this photo since I have to wait to show you most of the bedding, etc. until the crib arrives which will probably be when I do the big “reveal” post.
fabric designed by Robert Kaufman
You’ll notice I decided to add in a fun & bright aqua color to go along with the Navy, Gray & Green I was originally planning the room around. I think it adds a fun punch of color & gives me more freedom to accessorize…’cuz you know I love that part! I have some cute ideas for ways to use these bright & funky patterns throughout the room and you’ll slowly see them entering the room’s progress photos.
I am so looking forward to the weekend. Checking things off the list and spending some more family time outside. Thanks for reading. Enjoy your weekend too!

November 8, 2014 at 11:48 AMI love your fabric choices!! I am looking for something similar and checked your link. But couldn’t find any of the ones in your picture! Do you know the collection name or the indiv fabric names?

November 9, 2014 at 6:27 PMHi Hillary! The fabric collection is called “Marine”. If you visit http://www.robertkaufman.com and type “marine” in the search box, 2 pages of patterns should show up. I just saw several of them on the first page (and also spotted a new houndstooth print in the same colors!) If you have any other questions, please reach out again! Thanks so much for reading and I hope you’ll visit again 🙂 ~Rachael

November 2, 2014 at 12:55 PMLove your little boys room!! We also did the pegboard in our nursery (he should be here in about 5 weeks!)
Quick question- how did you attach the frames to the pegboard? That’s the one thing tripping me up. We put up hooks for the baskets, but I want to put up a quote and I’m lost with how to secure it! 😊
Thanks!!

November 2, 2014 at 8:20 PMHi Megan! Thank you and congratulations!! We actually just used pegboard hooks. We found an assorted pack of them on Amazon and used the different shapes and sizes for the various frames, etc. We just hooked whatever hanging mechanism came on the back of the frame, etc. onto one end of the pegboard hook and the other end hangs in the pegboard. Check out the links below for more details on the pegboard & nursery (the source list has the link for the pegboard hooks on Amazon). Please let me know if you have any other questions! I am more than happy to help 🙂 Thanks for reading and best of luck to you… Rachael

October 20, 2014 at 12:07 PMOk, last question I promise! I’ve literally been stalking your blog I absolutely LOVE your projects and creativity! Do you by chance remember what color the walls of the nursery are?
Rachael @ This is our Bliss
October 20, 2014 at 12:21 PMNo problem! I am happy to help… ok, I am 99% sure it is Sherwin Williams – Passive (SW 7064). I will try to double-check… the other possibility is Sherwin Williams – Agreeable Gray, but I’m fairly certain it is Passive 🙂 What are you working on? A nursery?!

October 20, 2014 at 12:54 PMI am! I’m doing different colors but I always knew I wanted the walls a light shade of gray. I was on pinterest looking at nursery pegboards and found yours and I was sold especially since the walls were gray and the pegboard was too. I’ve been looking at your nursery ever since for inspiration!

Rachael @ This is our Bliss
October 20, 2014 at 11:59 AMHi Tiffany! I found 2 of the 3 I mixed (both Valspar) – “Muted Ebony” & “Almost Charcoal”. I am sorry I didn’t document (and can’t remember!) the 3rd. Hope this helps 🙂 Thank you so much for stopping by and I hope you will come back again. Have a great week!
Thank you,
Rachael

October 20, 2014 at 12:03 PMThanks for your reply, after I wrote my comment I realized that in the picture with the paint roller it has all the swatches, and names of the paint on each swatch. I didn’t know how to delete the comment. But thank you headed to lowes this afternoon!
