Hi! Hello! Welcome back. if you’ve been here before and if you are just now stopping over to This is our Bliss, thanks so much for doing so! I am back today with a little DIY project that is quick, easy and adds just the right amount of #blingbling to your holiday décor! Has anyone else been eyeing all of the gorgeous gold foil art out there lately?! I keep seeing really cool pieces at places like Homegoods, Hobby Lobby, Michaels, Target and online at sites such as minted.com. Gold foil definitely seems to be the latest craze and I just love the sparkle and glam. So, while zipping through my Pinterest feed the other day, I saw this awesome gold foil art tutorial and decided I wamted to give it a try. I had the laminator and white cardstock already, so all I needed to buy was a roll of heat transfer gold foil which I picked up at Michaels. I followed Jen’s instructions (except for one little part 🙂 ) and here is how it evolved!
I created my image in Picmonkey using a few different text boxes and fonts and then printed it out. You can just as easily create your holiday word art using Microsoft Word. *After running this piece through the entire process, I realized the gold foil didn’t adhere, so had to have it printed at FedEx since they use toner and not ink. I brought the printout home and then started again! Whoops! Lesson learned. The instructions I followed were clear as day, but for some reason I thought my printer used toner :/
I plugged in my laminator and let it warm up. When the blue ready light turned on, I began prepping my foil. By prepping, I mean I laid my cut piece on the cardstock and ran it through! Super easy.
It came out in about 10 seconds.
I let it sit for a bit, although you don’t have to. I actually did a few things around the house and then came back later that night and finished up sitting by the tree.
After it goes through the laminator, you can sort of see the text through the foil.
I nervously peeled it away (for the 2nd time) and thankfully IT WORKED!!
I was so excited! It was a little splotchy, but decided once I put it behind glass in the frame, it wouldn’t be that noticeable. I loved it anyways – imperfections and all!
So, after flipping back through the tutorial I linked to up above, another one of Jen’s readers asked about the foil she used, since the reader said her Michaels foil was splotchy too. I visited the source for Jen’s foil and ordered some for future projects! It just so happens, you can get 1 yard for $3.50… I paid a whopping $4 for 1 foot before…whomp whomp.
What do you think?! Something you want to try? If you are not a regular DIY’er, don’t be intimidated by the laminator. It was a great $35 investment and can be used for a ton of things! You’ll see 🙂
Now onto finishing up my Christmas cards and listening to Christmas music while the boys are napping. #ohhappyday
Thank you for reading and I hope to have you back again soon! A few more holiday posts are underway and you don’t want to miss them!
