I have to say, what a difference a little decluttering, paint (+ DIY accent wall w/ wrapping paper) and organization can make in an itty bitty space. Small, tucked away areas of our home, like closets & drawers, tend to take a hit when we are running around preparing for company or just doing a general tidying session. Our linen closet was no exception. It is upstairs on the 2nd floor so it luckily doesn’t receive the brunt of the chaos like a few spots on the main floor do. I swear I am going to tackle those guys next! In an effort to clear out the clutter at the beginning of the year, I decided to start with this particular closet since it is the one that our overnight guests utilize and really should be kept in good shape for their sake 🙂
In the old closet, we used to store pillows, sheet sets, bath towels, beach towels, blankets and random blow-up mattress gear. After pulling everything out and off the shelves, we were not only able to get rid of several old blankets, dingy & worn out towels and other miscellaneous items that didn’t belong, but also move the beach towels and the master bedroom sheet sets out. The closet is now neat & tidy so our guests are able to easily find exactly what they need, without the extra stuff in their way. We have an additional linen storage area across the hall where the rest is now kept. I really just want the essentials at their fingertips!
Since it is just a closet and we didn’t do anything extra spectacular to it, I will just let the before & after photos do the talking. I am so pleased with the end result. I even was able to sneak some GOLD in!
A gold metal basket from One Kings Lane holds hand towels & wash cloths.
The wrapping paper wall! I heart it. The small gold sunburst mirror was a part of a set of 3 from Homegoods that I have had in storage for awhile. It was originally a muted gold, so I spray-painted it to make it more bold & bright. Who doesn’t want a sparkly gold ray of sunshine in the closet?!
Here is my cost breakdown:
leftover paint – $0
sunburst mirror + gold spray paint – $0 (already had)
wrapping paper for accent wall – $3
4 shelves @ $10 ea. – $40
spray adhesive – $0 (already had)
gold basket – $10
DIY Hamper materials – $35 (this post still to come!)

What do you think? I think it is a BIG improvement with a LITTLE price tag! Plus it is FREE to purge & organize 🙂
