No, I haven’t forgot! A few of the DIY tutorials are STILL on their way from the Biggest’s Curious Little Gentleman Big Boy Room like this fun DIY Scrabble Letter Light Frame I’m sharing with you today! I was so easily consumed by the Fall One Room Challenge, the holidays and then you know… life, but I’ve got a big ol’ checklist of follow-up posts and I assure you, you’ll see these projects come trickling in!
So, this DIY Scrabble Letter Light Frame has become one of my favorite DIY projects in the biggest’s room. I think it’s because he loves it so much! Let me show you how I created it…

INSTRUCTIONS
This DIY Scrabble Letter Light Frame is pretty self-explanatory. At least I hope so because I am missing most of my before and during photos! I’ll do my best to walk you through the steps I took to create it. I promise it wasn’t too difficult!
First, I took my frame out of the packaging and removed everything from it so I just had the empty frame itself. Next, I set the frame down horizontally and eye-balled about 1/3 of the way in from the right side and wrapped painter’s tape around the top side and bottom side. I then took my garbage bag and put the left side of the frame in and secured the bag to the frame with more tape, lining up the pieces to wrap around the first pieces I wrapped on the frame.
This is essentially protecting the left 2/3 of the frame from the spray paint. So…yes, next comes the spray paint. I took the frame outside and generously coated 1/3 of the frame with glossy orange spray-paint. I applied 2 coats and let sit out for the afternoon to dry. After bringing it back inside, I gently removed the painter’s tape to reveal crisp clean lines on the frame. I am sure there is an easier way to protect the left side of the frame from over-spraying, but I wanted to be sure it was completely safe.
Then again, I’m kind of lazy when it comes to painting so I opt to use spray paint 95% of the time. Simply taping off your “dipped” area and using a paint brush to apply your color would work well too.
After the orange side was done, I needed to touch up the inside of the white part of the frame. If you’ve ever used these frames from IKEA, then you know it is unfinished/unpainted with quite a few brad nails exposed on the inner part. I simply used a foam brush and white paint to paint the interior just like I did on this frame here.
After it was dry, I added my hooks to the inside near the top, created a knotted loop on both ends of the scrabble letter string and placed each end on the hooks. I then placed the clear sticker letters on the light boxes to spell out “BE CURIOUS” since you remember the theme of the biggest’s Big Boy Room was Curious Little Gentleman!
You’ll have to play around with which words / letters you use and how you want the the words to look hanging on the inside. With the size of frame I used, the words swoop down below the halfway point of the frame. If you use a larger frame, you could have the letters hang a bit straighter or across the middle. Keep in mind there are 10 individual scrabble letter boxes so you might have to get creative with your word choices. You can also leave one or more blank as a space between your words!

Next, I hammered a nail into the wall above his dresser that I gave a modern makeover to and hung the Scrabble Letter Light frame on it. The light string is powered with an electric cord, so you’ll want to be sure you have an outlet nearby. Of course you could always attach the plug to an extension cord.

Or, if you want your scrabble letter light frame to function as a nightlight, you can easily plug it into an outlet timer. We used a timer in here and set it to light up at 7:30 and stay on for an hour. It’s actually the same timer we use for our Christmas tree lights. Simple to set and works like a charm.
It gives off a really awesome glow and the Biggest thinks it’s the coolest when it’s lit up at night!
I think these scrabble letter light strings are super cute and could be used in a variety of ways. They would make a fun addition to a party table swooped in front or as a back-drop to a table or photo booth!
How would you use a scrabble letter light strand?
Truth. I still have a few projects left to share with you from our Big Boy Room Reveal, but I’m going to continue to work them in between seasonal tours, current DIY’s and updates on other room projects in the house. The living room and master bedroom are being worked on simultaneously right now, so I’ll be back soon sharing what I have left to do in each space before I call them DONE!
Don’t forget to pin for later!
