We’ve created some affordable and DOABLE do-it-yourself projects that you can whip and have ready to go for when the holiday bug hits! And believe me when I say I have an idea for you that takes zero creativity and little to no time. It truly is a 5 Minute Holiday Hostess Gift!

It’s no denying that they holiday season is quickly approaching and this year, wouldn’t it be great if we could plan ahead like a teeny tiny bit so that the hustle and bustle of the holidays isn’t turned up to 100 all day, every day? I always proclaim that THIS is the year I am going to get my shopping done early….and bake the cookies way in advance…and be totally on-top of the Christmas card mailings….and then. Well, you know what happens.
Sound familiar?
While I have high hopes for doing all the holiday things early this year, I know that just isn’t going to be the case. What I did decide to do was try to tackle one aspect — the get-organized-with-the-gift-giving part. There are so many family, friends and loved ones to shop for but these wonderful gifts don’t have to break the bank. Especially when it’s a cute, thoughtful and festive gift – these are the ones I’m talking about today! The gifts for all of the generous hostesses throwing fabulous dinner parties, cookie exchanges, brunches and holiday celebrations! Don’t they deserve a little something? And if you’re anything like us, the number of these types of celebrations almost triples in December. Yes, the social calendar gets filled up and rather quickly! Since these holiday gatherings are inevitable, I decided to come up with a 5 minute holiday hostess gift idea using all supplies from Dollar Tree. [See my DIY gift tags for another quick and easy make-ahead hostess gift idea!]
Come see what I did!
I first decided on a pretty general theme. Where do most hostesses spend their time prepping for a party and inevitably where do all the guests end up hanging out during the party?
The kitchen!
So I thought by picking up the following items at Dollar Tree, they would sure get some good use:
SUPPLIES
Oven mitt
cinnamon apple candle
drink napkins
ornament
ribbon
[All from Dollar Tree]
Tissue paper
As you’ll see, the oven mitt actually became the gift bag!
I simply stuck the candle down in the mitt, slightly folded the napkins and tucked them in so they lay along the back of the mitt, added a bit of some coordinating patterned tissue paper and then simply tied the ornament around the mitt with black satin ribbon [also from Dollar Tree].
I was able to cut my tissue paper into quarters and then I took 2 pieces and placed them together back-sides together and then put it in and fluffed it out a bit. I made 3 ready-to-go hostess gifts using 2 sheets of tissue paper – one sheet of polka dot and one sheet of leopard print, both I had on-hand in my supply stash.
Another tip: when it comes time to secure the ornament to the mitt, thread your ribbon through the loop on the ornament, center the ornament on the strand of ribbon, lay the ornament where you want it to rest on the mitt and then take both ends of ribbon to the back and then go around to the front with the ends so that’s where the ends end up. You want your bow to be in front on top of the ornament where it looks pretty and can be seen! You’ll essentially be wrapping it around the mitt twice.
How cute are these little glitter deer head ornaments?!
I do have to say the oven mitts that I typically see at my local Dollar Tree, other than the solid color ones, look a bit cheesy and cheap. When I spotted these black and red ones, I was super impressed! The candles there, are of course a dollar and I love a good-smelling fancy candle as much as anyone, but I have to say these smell delicious! I bought a pumpkin spice and a salted caramel one and have them in our guest bathroom. All of them including the ones I used in the hostess gift are the Air Fresh brand ones without a label on them!
Can’t find what you’re looking for at your local dollar store? Here are several alternatives:
Don’t feel like DIY’ing, here’s one ready to go:
You could absolutely adapt this idea for any holiday or season by tweaking the look. A different patterned mit, different colored candle and different napkin theme. Then, just come up with a little something to attach to the front – a corkscrew, bottle stopper or a chocolate bar. Anything would work! Now that my 5 minute holiday hostess gifts are ready for the season, I probably need to go back and focus on Halloween ha! I actually have one more fun Halloween post coming up tomorrow, so stay tuned…
Don’t forget to pin for later!
