The half-way point of the Spring 2018 One Room Challenge has arrived! The Sophisticated Neutral Nursery has been emptied out and already feels completely transformed by new wall paint, a wallpaper accent wall and the addition of a sweet changing table! Today for the week 3 update, I’m going to be sharing our paint color selections, slip you a sneak peek of the wallpaper and share the beginning of the closet transformation, including a freshly painted closet interior and the new changing table inside! The space already feels like it’s coming together and I have to admit, I’m loving the bare bones minimalist vibe it has going on right now as we make progress in here! Oh, but don’t you worry, I’ve got nursery knick knacks and sweet little accessories on the way! 🙂
If you’re stopping by today for the first time, then welcome! Our 3rd little one will be arriving this summer and we are working to create the baby’s digs over the course of the 6 week ORC hosted by Linda of Calling it Home. Week 1, I shared the before photos, mood board and nursery plans. Last week, you saw the nursery closet design. Today, you’re actually going to see some of the new design elements in action!
A look back at the design board…

We emptied the majority of the room [and closet] out and the walls were painted with Sherwin Williams Nuance. I’ve loved this super light creamy gray since we used it in the Guestroom in our last house [my very first One Room Challenge space]! After the minty green was covered up, the room instantly felt soft and serene. I highly, highly recommend this color. It’s not a bright white, has the perfect hint of gray, but still feels like a nice, light ivory. Check it out!
If you remember back to the littlest’s nursery, specifically the nursery closet, then the bright and bold LIME GREEN paint comes to mind! However, this time a round, we went with a dark gray inside the closet to stick with the spirit of a neutral nursery.
After sampling a few colors, Sherwin Williams African Gray was the ultimate winner!
And here’s the changing table I mentioned earlier! We did have a large white dresser in the closet before, but since we are building a more functional system for the closet, we needed to take the dresser out. The room is pretty small, so it made the most sense to find a cute changing table to place inside the closet. We loved this one because its sleek and modern, has 3 good-sized drawers and a removable changing table topper. After the days of endless dirty diapers and multiple nighttime changes are behind us, we can remove the topper and it will serve as a small dresser!
I love the look of the closet already, but am anxiously awaiting the finished product. T will be busy in here this weekend and I’ll have some progress to show next week for sure!
And now for the third and final big change in the nursery this week…
…the wallpaper is up!!
Since we wanted to keep things gender neutral, I didn’t want to go with anything too bold and funky or [fun and feminine for that matter!], but instantly fell in love with the Lines Washed on White paper by Tempaper. Their product is self-adhesive, repositionable and removable, not to mention, they have a wide variety of beautiful selections to choose from.
We did need 2 rolls for our 10.5′ by 8′ wall in order to be able to line up the pattern properly. We used approximately 6 1/2 pieces across the wall. It went on so easily and the pattern we chose was quite forgiving since the stripes aren’t perfectly straight, but more of a blurred line. Bonus!
Very little supplies were needed…the paper, scissors, a craft or other type of knife [to cut the paper at the ceiling and the baseboards] and Tempaper’s smoothing tool which helps remove air bubbles. I will say, this is definitely a 2 person job. We pretty much needed all 4 of our hands at all times!
I’m thrilled with the fact the walls are DONE! And pretty pleased with the direction we’re headed with the closet so far…
A few other items have arrived in the last couple of days and I can’t wait to start sprinkling them around the room. The ceiling light just arrived and am counting down the days until we can say goodbye to the rainbow fan!!
It doesn’t exactly fit with the whole neutral look, does it?!
Here is where we are at with the space overall…
