We are down to the last couple days of school before the boys are out for Summer! I decided while I was home trying to get the house in order [in as much peace and quiet as you get with an 11 month old!!], I might as well do a little Summer sprucing. There is not much that goes into my Summer decorating, but while the boys were gone [minus the baby] I knew I had a little time for some creative freedom. After stopping by the local thrift store last week and scooping up a new console table, I decided this was the spot to do my Summer zhushing! Today, I’m sharing How to Style a Console Table for Summer.
I don’t make stops at the thrift store all that often, but when I do, I usually don’t come home with anything more than a couple picture frames [see my tips for thrifting frames here] and a few books. But when I spotted this console table, I knew it needed a place in our home. I love the warm wood tone and texture and pattern in it. And I even had a spot for it! Scoring a great deal on a piece of furniture seems like a good idea until you get home and have nowhere for it!!
I wanted to set up a small, seasonally appropriate vignette on my new table, so what else do you do when you need a starting point? Head outside and grab some clippings! Read on to hear how to style a console table for Summer!
But these tips really work year-round!
HOW TO STYLE A CONSOLE TABLE FOR SUMMER
1 | FRESH GREENS
Go out and cut some clippings from a bush or tree in your yard. Or if you’re like me, text your neighbor and ask if you can come over and snip some of her flowering bushes from the side of her house!!
I always tend to fill a vase with greens from the yard whenever I want sprinkles summer into space. See my simple summer bar cart and my simple Summer mantel from years past. The clippings are the star of the show and cost me absolutely nothing!
2 | A STACK OF BOOKS
Grab a stack of books in your color scheme or decorating theme. Since the wood table is a warm tone, I knew I wanted to use black, white, gold and green objects on top. I had recently thrifted several of these books including an Illinois gardeners guide and this “California” book. They felt Summer-y, so on the table they went!
For under $.25 a piece, whenever I see an interesting title, or neutral colored spine/cover, I buy it.
3 | LEANING FRAMED ART OR PHOTOS
The next thing I like to do is lean a frame or two. I tend to do this when decorating a nightstand as well. I found this simple black and white Hello Summer printable and thought it would be so cute! I also went to my stash and grabbed a framed picture of the beach where we spelled out “2011” on our honeymoon in St. Lucia.
Since we don’t have many beachy, sandy vibes here in Chicago, bringing them in picture form is the next best thing! Don’t you think?
4 | DECORATIVE OBJECT
The last thing you need to style your console table for Summer is a summer-y object. This black decorative pineapple found a place right in front of my two vases. It was the last little Summer touch I needed to finish off my neutral, chic Summer vignette. I also stuck in a little faux succulent filled gold wire orb. It was on another bookshelf in the living room and thought it would nestle up nicely to the stack of books!
