When I think of Summer, you can bet I’m dreaming of quiet evenings on the deck while the kids play in the yard or big backyard parties with friends, family and neighbors. Each Friday night in the Summer, our neighbors take turns hosting Flamingo Friday, and our turn is coming up! I was trying to come up with a fun signature drink to serve to our guests when I realized, why reinvent the wheel?! A classic Salty Dog is such a good mix of flavors and the absolute perfect shade of “Flamingo Pink”!
Today I’m sharing a Salty Dog Cocktail Recipe Perfect for Summer Entertaining! And what makes it perfect for a party is that you can mix all of your ingredients in a large beverage dispenser to set out for your guests to help themselves! Such an easy way to host because it’s less work for you during the actual party. Your job in the kitchen or behind the bar is done!
I knew I wanted a high-quality vodka to use in my cocktail to serve to my guests and Prairie Organic Vodka checks all the boxes! Great taste, smooth flavor, Gluten Free and as an Iowa / Illinois gal myself, I love that it is made right here in the Midwest (Minnesota)

Now on to the tasty details!
Here is what I used to make the Salty Dogs:
SALTY DOG COCKTAIL RECIPE INGREDIENTS FOR LARGE DRINK DISPENSER BATCH
- 1 bottle Prairie Organic Vodka [750 mL]
- 3 – 60 oz. jugs of Grapefruit juice
- 1/2 – 2 liter of Lemon Lime Soda
- Whole Grapefruit
- Himalayan Pink Salt [or regular Sea Salt]
- Ice cubes
SALTY DOG COCKTAIL RECIPE DIRECTIONS
Pour the Grapefruit juice, lemon lime soda and vodka in together. Stir for 30 seconds until well combined.
Slice one grapefruit into rings and then halves. I also cut a few of the slices into quarters and added them to the ice cube tube that runs through the center of the dispenser. It is a fun little touch!
Next, take one of the wedges and set on top of the rim of the glass. Run it all the way around the glass and then dip into a bowl or plate of salt to rim the edge.
I used ground Himalayan Pink Salt for a fun twist on regular salt. The pink was so pretty paired with the color of the grapefruit!
Add ice to each glass and then slit the remaining grapefruit wedges to pop onto the rest of the glasses.
Fill each glass with the mixture and enjoy!
The Salty Dog has such a great combination of flavors – a little tang, a little sweet [and of course, a little salty!] The soda gives it a little fizz and the vodka gives it a rich smoothness.
I can’t get enough of that gorgeous color!! So pretty for a Summer party!
You can make individual drinks or like I did, make a large yummy batch ahead of time! My recipe will fill approximately 30 6-8 ounce cocktail glasses. If you are making an individual drink, add 6 ounces of grapefruit juice, 1 ounce of lemon lime soda and 1 ounce of Prairie Organic Vodka. Mix well and pour over ice.
This delicious drink not only looks beautiful sitting out, but it is most certainly a crowd pleaser at the end of a long and hot Summer day!
