Who’s ready to FLAMINGLE this Summer? Or if you’re like us, then you already have been! I’ve been promising this Flamingo Friday post for weeks now and I knew I had to get it out to you before Summer is half-way over! So today, I’m sharing all of the fun party gear you’ll need and a few tips for How to Host a Flamingo Party or a Friday “Flamingle” as some say 😉
HOW TO HOST A FLAMINGO PARTY [AKA FLAMINGO FRIDAY]
Every Friday in the Summer months, our neighbors in our subdivision take turns hosting a Flamingo Friday party. We start the first Friday in June [sometimes the last Friday in May] and they run each Friday until Labor Day.
We have one main coordinator who drops flyers in each mailbox in May stating when and where the first Flamingo Friday party will be held. One family will volunteer and let her know they’d like to host the first one and then there is a sign-up sheet for families to snag a date to host the remaining Fridays.
The coordinator then sends out the Summer schedule with a reminder of who is hosting that week with their address!
We just ask that everyone brings drinks for their family and a dish to share.
The host family is responsible for providing a table, plates, napkins and flatware and most importantly, the flamingos! On Friday morning, that night’s host will put out 10-12 pink Flamingo stakes in their yard to let everyone know where they party is that night! The yard stakes are kept in a large garbage bag and handed off to the next week’s host.
Flamingo Friday starts at 6:30 and ends at 9:30, but they have been known to go on much later at the host’s discretion. Although, no one is required to host any later than the scheduled end time!
The kids play, the adults hang out and sometimes we end by the fire roasting s’mores. There’s fun for all!
FLAMINGO FRIDAY NEIGHBORHOOD TRADITION
The Summertime Flamingo Friday parties have been an ongoing neighborhood tradition for almost 20 years! When we were house hunting 3 years ago, we heard that this subdivision had these so-called Flamingo Friday parties all Summer long. So when we ended up buying our home in this neighborhood, we were pleased to see that this “rumor” was in fact true. We were at our first Flamingo Friday party the 2nd week in our new house!
Instant social plans for us and the boys!
We met a ton of people right away and then each week had familiar faces greet us! It was such a nice way to meet our neighbors, ask questions, get referrals for local spots and learn about the area, schools and just get to know everyone!
We love that it’s a way for us all to get together in between busy schedules. If you’re in town, you know there will always be at least a few families hanging out on Friday night! Everyone is busy with vacations, sports schedules, etc. but it’s nice to know there’s a crew of friends getting together each Friday night.
We all know that come Winter in the Midwest, everyone goes into hibernation. You really don’t see your neighbors until Spring at the earliest!
The Flamingo yard stakes are put out in the front, but since the Flamingo Friday parties take place in the backyard, it’s fun to see all of the cute Flamingo party gear and decor the hosts put out!
Below, I’ve rounded up some of the cutest Flamingo party gear and pink decor out there! And a lot of what you’ll see are the things we all use and put out each week as hosts of Flamingo Friday!

Other Ways to Turn your Summer Party into a Flamingo Party
- If it’s pink, use it.
- plates, napkins, balloons, flowers, etc. You can’t have enough! It doesn’t have to have a Flamingo
- And for food, again think pink! Watermelon, strawberry fruit dip, pink cookies & candies, ice cream, juices, etc.
- Have a signature Pink Drink!
- Try this Salty Dog Recipe! The grapefruit juice makes it the perfect shade of Flamingo pink. Anything with pink lemonade or cranberry juice works too.
- Name your appetizers and use little name plates or labels.
- Similar to this Safari Birthday Party I threw for Simon’s 1st birthday. Each food item had a name and it was labeled on the table in front. “Flamingo Food”, “Flocktails”, etc!
