It’s still early Fall, so if you’re not ready to pull allll the Fall decor out, don’t! Here in Chicago our temps are all over the place! 89 one day and then 63 the next! In the morning, I’m layering sweaters and sweatshirts, but by 4 I’m like, must find a tank top! You might not feel like sprinkling pumpkins everywhere just yet, but you can still get your house ready for Fall without feeling like you’re prepping for Halloween! Today I’m sharing my 19 Simple Ways to Bring Fall Into Your Home!
And most of these ideas are super subtle so it won’t feel like you’re going all out even if you want to try a couple of these on September 1st!
Come and take a peek at all the easy ways you can decorate for Fall [without really decorating!]!
17 SIMPLE WAYS TO BRING FALL INTO YOUR HOME
1 | Toss a Fall pillow on the couch.
This one is easy and most of us love adding at least one Fall-ish pillow to the mix, right?! Think plaids, fall colors, faux fur, leopard, typography, etc. One simple throw pillow can instantly fall-ify your living room or family room space.
2 | Add a cozy throw blanket to a chair
3 | Scatter mini pumpkins in various places.
Pick up a few at your local grocery store or a variety of faux ones from Dollar Tree or Target – see how I filled my Fall Mantel with them this year and also in this Fall mantel post here]
4 | Bake a loaf of pumpkin bread.
Or pumpkin muffins or pumpkin cookies! I’ve been making pumpkin chocolate chip cookies with my since I was a little girl and we’ve started to make them with the boys each Fall. I also love making them pumpkin pancakes for breakfast this time of the year. [Plus adding a little pumpkin creamer to your coffee is an instant Fall morning!]
5 | Put on a crockpot of chili.
I love a traditional red chili, but one of my new favorites is white chicken chili. And served with warm cornbread and honey, it is SO good!
6 | Swap out your front door mat for a more Fall-ish one.
The rug layering trend is still going strong. I layered this rug over this striped rug on the front porch this Summer. Since the top rug is not season-specific, I can totally leave it.
But this Fall rug and this one are both calling my name!
7 | Fill a bowl with pumpkins & gourds as a centerpiece on your kitchen island or dining room table.
8 | Load up a lantern with mini pumpkins & gourds
9 | Fill a vase with acorns
Faux or real acorns in a little bowl or vase is a simple and inexpensive decor accessory. You can also make this DIY Acorn Vase for just a few dollars!
10 | Light a pumpkin scented candle.
This is my all-time favorite pumpkin-scented candle, but this pumpkin one is gorgeous and how can you resist this cute little pumpkin shaped candle?!
11 | Get out your Grandma’s Fall recipes.
My dad’s mom made the best apple pie and my mom’s mom’s apple crisp recipe is out of this world!]
12 | Hang a Fall wreath on your front door

If you don’t feel like crafting, here are some really cute wreath options – all under $35!
13 | Fill a large vase with fall-colored flowers as a centerpiece on your table.
You could also buy one bouquet and split it up to make 3 smaller arrangements & then put them in 3 different rooms.
14 | Add a pot of mums to your front porch.
This was taken at our old house several years ago, but I still swoon looking back at that arched door and stone entry!
This year, I am going for berry-colored and white mums. I have a vision and have been working on bringing it to life! I’ll be sharing my Fall Porch on the blog next week, so be on the lookout!
15 | Make a Fall simmer pot with orange peels, cinnamon sticks, apples, vanilla and thyme.
Have you every done one of these?! I tell myself each Fall and Winter I’m going to put one together before we host friends or family, but still haven’t! I’m for sure doing one this year 😉
What are your favorite combinations?
16 | Hang a fall dish towel on the outside of your oven door.

17 | Toss a few feathers into your centerpiece.
I bought a pack of feathers at Michaels a couple years ago and decided the best spot for them was right inside my floral arrangement. It gave the centerpiece a whole new look and for only a couple dollars!
18 | Frame a Fall Word Art Print
I made this over-sized Fall word art print years ago, but I also love the simplicity of this one here. This is the same one I used in my Summer Console Table display. Print it and then pop it in a frame and you are set!
19 | Use warm, rich metallics like copper and brass in your decor.
Get out your metallic vases, metallic pumpkins or just drink everything out of copper mugs! They are great for hot and cold beverages. We used them last year during the holidays when I put together this hot cocoa bar in the kitchen!
They are great for kid-friendly and adult beverages!!
Speaking of, do you have a favorite Fall cocktail – please do share!!
Whether you go all out for Fall or just want to add a few simple touches, hopefully this post was helpful! Our mantel might be the only place I decorate until Halloween, but I will be fall-ifying the porch and sharing soon!
