Style My Closet Challenge Update Part 3

The Style My Closet Challenge has come to a close! And truth be told, I feel like I ran a marathon! This 31 day challenge was such a fun experiment and I am so happy Heather and I decided to go for it! Getting dressed everyday in something outside of my normal mom=iform which typically consists of some type of leggings, a t-shirt and the nearest cardigan or hoodie! After I got into a habit of getting myself dressed and ready each day, then I had to remember to actually snap a picture! Today, I’m sharing the final recap of days 22-31 in the Style My Closet Challenge Update Part 3!

For those of you just checking in for the first time, my friend Heather of Southern State of Mind and I put our heads together to come up with a fun style challenge that would force us to wear what was actually in our closet. We were tired of going to look for something to wear and then feeling like we didn’t have anything. I know some of you can relate!

We came up with 31 themes to help us dig through our current wardrobe to pull out our very favorites that coordinated with the daily prompts.

STYLE MY CLOSET CHALLENGE UPDATE PART 3

Through this challenge, I came to realize several things:

1 | I actually felt better each day.

There is something about being dressed with hair and makeup done that makes you feel more put together and truly has a positive effect on your productivity. If I needed to go somewhere, I felt prepared to just go. I didn’t have to rush around trying to get ready at the last minute mid-day or at 4 pm to be somewhere at night. I felt energized and ready to take on the day and it was all because I took the time to pull myself together each morning.

2 | It was easier to purge the clothes I wasn’t reaching for.

When I went into my closet each night to pull out the next day’s outfit, I was coming across so many items I was skipping past each time. If it fit the theme, but wasn’t even my 3rd, 4th or 5th choice, it needed to go! I tend to go in and purge at least once per month, but I was pulling these out every few days and it feels amazing! A lighter and more organized closet will help me continue to get dressed the rest of the Fall and into the Winter season!

3 | It pushed me out of my comfort zone.

We can do hard things, right?! It seems silly, but this was truly a challenge for me. It’s easy to stay in pajamas or athleisure wear when you’re a SAHM and part-time blogger with a baby there with you. It forced me to be creative by pulling together new looks with current pieces. It forced me to reach past the stack of clothes on the bench in my bedroom. It forced me to completely walk past my drawer of leggings and walk straight into the closet. I was breaking a habit and over the course of the month, I truly feel like I overcame one of my SAHM struggles.

Also, getting organized and planning ahead the night before was out of my comfort zone as well. Figuring out what to wear is typically a last-minute task around here!

So now let’s get to the last stretch of the challenge and see what I wore! I linked as many things as I could, but since not everything was new, I tried to source similar items for some things. Have a look below!

STYLE MY CLOSET CHALLENGE: DAYS 22-31

DAY 22: COZIED UP SCARF STYLE

cozied up scarf style - day 22 of the Style my Closet Challenge - big blanket scarf snakeskin booties - This is our Bliss

I realized I don’t reach for scarves. Like ever, but I own quite a few. I decided to keep this oversized blanket scarf and only a couple other ones. Remember that purging was a big part of this challenge for me! I have tons to wear as true outerwear, but I don’t typically tie a scarf around my neck as an addition to my outfit.

Heather has a super cute knotted method for tying scarves, so I may have to give it a try!

DAY 23: MATCH THE FALL LEAVES

This top screams fall to me with the autumn colors and simple floral design. It’s an old one from Nordstrom, but I did spot this darling yoke neck blouse when I was at Nordstrom last week. It took everything for me not to buy it, but I make a no clothes or shoes shopping rule this month during the challenge. It might be going on my Christmas list though!

DAY 24: BOO-TIFUL BOOTIES

Bootiful Booties - Style My Closet Challenge - This is our Bliss

What’s not fun about studded booties?! They give a little edge to any outfit! I love the details of this FRINGE SWEATER [similar] paired with a pair of distressed jeans. If you haven’t noticed by now, I’m totally a denim girl. When I “get dressed” I put on jeans!!

DAY 25: LET’S GO NEUTRAL

Lets go neutral - subtle snakeskin print blouse for style my closet challenge - This is our Bliss

This blouse was a Target find a couple months ago and I love the understated snakeprint. Its subtle and the warm brown and beige are a nice combo. It’s also like a satin material and only $19.99. It would make a really pretty Thanksgiving Day outfit with basic jeans.

DAY 26: STRIPES ARE ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA

Stripes are always a good idea! Style My Closet challenge - striped turtleneck moto jacket snakeskin flats - This is our Bliss

I love a striped shirt! In fact, I own quite a few. A basic black and white striped turtleneck can be dressed up with a jacket and flats. These pointed toe snakeskin ones have gotten a lot of mileage this Fall!

DAY 27: GLITZ & GLAM

Glitz & Glam - Style My Closet Challenge - This is our Bliss

Because boy moms can wear sparkles too!

One of my besties got me this sweatshirt after I had Winston. With 3 boys I can proudly wear this cute and comfy sweatshirt!  This is actually something I’d normally wear, but decided to put on some fun shoes instead of sneakers so I pulled out my sparkly gold slip-ons. I’ve had them for several years, but I’ve linked a couple similar options if you want some glitz and glam on your feet, too. That’s what I love about an all black outfit, you can put on a fun shoe and jewelry and change your whole look.

Especially if you wear a lot of black. Rotating your shoes and accessories will give new life to your black wardrobe 🙂

DAY 28: CARDIS, COATS & BLAZERS – OH MY

If you don’t have this gray snakeprint tee, then grab it now! It’s been a top seller all of October since sharing it in The Best Amazon Fall Finds Under $40 post and then again in my recent Favorite Amazon Purchases post! I paired it with gray jeans, black booties and layered a black cardigan over top since it is a short sleeve top.

Love this particular snake print and the black and grays!

DAY 29: LIFE IS SHORT, WEAR CUTE SHOES

life is cute wear cute shoes - Style my closet challenge - This is our Bliss

Leopard shoes always feel cute on my feet! But it’s true, life is short, so have fun and wear what you love! Step out of your comfort zone a little! If you aren’t into wearing a ton of animal print and a leopard print sweater or cardigan [or my fav leopard leggings] is too much print, then try some on your feet!

I first shared this sweater last year in my Simple & Stylish Thanksgiving Outfit ideas post. It’s no longer available, but I love the thick tan and black stripe!

And if you don’t have any coated denim yet, snag a pair before the holidays. It’s like wearing jeans & leather leggings in one because it’s a pair of black jeans with a faux leather finish!

DAY 30: FEELING WITCHY

Feeling witchy with pointy toed boots - plaid blazer and graphic tee - Style My Closet Challenge - This is our Bliss

I should’ve pulled out my blazer for day 28, but these black pointy boots had me feeling witchy! An easy look because you’re just dressing up a basic graphic tee!

DAY 31: FABOOLOUS & FESTIVE

It was a faBOOlous day, but a very cold and snowy one, too! My mums are done for, but I guess that’s ok since it’s November now 😉

I traded in my leopard ears from the Kindergarten Halloween party for a bat girl emblem at night! An all black outfit was my uniform today!
