Casual Chic Style Vol. 7

It’s time for another Casual Chic Style post! I can tell you that I’m all about the layers right now. It starts off cool in the morning and then by mid-afternoon it’s time to shed the jacket or cardigan. We’re only hitting mid-seventies as the high temp each day here in Chicago, but when the sun is shining its too warm for the top layer! Today’s post is the 7th volume in the Casual Chic Style series and its centered around polka dots, animal prints [leopard & snakeskin] with a mix of heels, booties and sneakers and even a new $16 hat that you’ll be able to wear with SO many looks this season.

And most of the pieces can be interchanged because you know I love some good pattern play! With similar colorways, they all work well together!

I’ve been really digging the polka dot and snakeskin combo lately 🙂

CASUAL CHIC STYLE VOLUME 7

OUTFIT #1: EDGY ROCK WITH A TOUCH OF GLAM

This is one of those super soft tee shirts that has a nice shape to it. Its only $16 and is so cute with jeans, black denim, animal prints or this cute wine-colored faux leather skirt.

This was my look last week for the Better Homes & Gardens Stylemaker Event. I wanted something slightly edgy but still comfortable.

A graphic tee for the win!

These are my go-to under $40 jeans and love how they’ve continued to break in in the distressed areas [knee & hem].  This look would work with either snakeskin or leopard print booties or heels! The gold sequins keep it fun and feminine!

FAUX LEATHER MOTO JACKET || I sized up to a medium so I can layer underneath. [PS. I’ve had this jacket for over 4 years and it looks as good as it did when I bought it. Highly recommend investing in a black faux leather jacket that you can wear forever. I also have this one and its a bit thicker / more stiff, but love it, too!

OUTFIT #2: CLASSIC POLKA DOT & DENIM

I find myself gravitating towards polka dots lately! I was always stripes and leopard, but I think polka dot & snakeskin are working hard to make their way into my closet. This tee is $12 and will work with all the animal prints and black denim or blue jeans. I love the mustard / tan color with the bold black dots!

These snakeskin mules are so pretty in person and only $12. I love them with a patterned top [colors would work really well with the Queen t-shirt, too!] a plain white tee or a camel or rust colored sweater.

Still have nothing but excellent things to say about these jeans too! They were perfect for me to wear [up one size] after Winston was born last year because of the “suck-you-in” high waist. And then I bought my normal size and wear the heck out of them!

 SIZING INFO:
POLKA DOT TEE || Runs pretty TTS, but I sized down to an XS for a slightly more fitted look. It still fits like a tee-shirt though.
RAW EDGE DENIM JACKET || Fits TTS, have a size small.

MAUVE & MUSTARD SNAKESKIN MULES || Run TTS. I’m normally a 7.5 to 8 and since they only come in whole sizes, I got the 8 and they fit well.

OUTFIT #3: SNAKESKIN & SNEAKERS WEEKEND STYLE

I think I’ve worn this t-shirt at least once a week since I got it this Summer. It’s a stretchy, silky tee and plenty roomy. It also washes really well, too. I do a front-tuck in my jeans [both regular jeans and black jeans] and have dressed it up with an ankle bootie or dressy mule. But I tend to throw on my white sneakers with it for a more casual look!

SNAKE TEE || BLACK JEANS || SILVER MULES [SIMILAR] || MARBLE + GOLD BANGLE || GRAY + GOLD BEADED BRACELET

Not only have I lived in this tee, but I’ve literally been wearing these white sneakers non-stop on the daily since I ordered them. I got them on Amazon and paid around $55 for them. I’ve seen the price fluctuate quite a bit, but they are honestly so comfortable and had zero breaking in to do with them. They haven’t given me any pain or any blisters and at this point, am certain they won’t! 

I’ve been wearing them with these nude, no-show socks and they are SO GOOD! I got the 3 pack and am so in love with them, decided they are going on my next Favorite Amazon purchases post next month. HIGHLY recommend!!

OUTFIT #4: ELEVATED MOM-IFORM

This is my definition of *Casual Chic* right here. A cute, but casual tee shirt, jeans, dressier sneakers [ha] and an adorable belt purse which is basically an elevated fanny pack! So far I’ve worn it to two concerts, eating and drinking on Broadway in Nashville and Saturday shopping in Chicago. It keeps your hands-free and there’s just enough room for the staples!

This one is also a great option under $20 – I recently shared it in The Best Fall Amazon Finds Under $40 post.

What I love most about this mini dot tee shirt besides the fact that its only $4.99, is that the print is SO tiny. It almost looks like a basic white tee from far away. And then when you see it up close, its a fun surprise – a bit unexpected! And I love the fit of this tee, too. I also bought it in the reverse black with mini white dots.

These wedge sneakers are one of my favorite purchases from last year. They are comfortable and am totally good running around with the boys for soccer games, running errands, etc. They are a little pricier, but the quality is outstanding. I really want to get another color this year and am debating between the tan ones and the camo ones!

And this hat is such a fun find that I bought it in 2 colors – camel and black.

Both only $16 each. I love the contrasting belt detail around it!

OUTFIT #5: PLAYFUL PRINTS GIRL’S NIGHT OUT

It was love at first sight of this darling polka dot blouse with leopard collar & cuffs. I knew I had to have it. Since NYC was around the corner, I decided this would be one of the pieces I’d treat myself to. I did end up wearing nearly this exact look [with the exception of the hat color and slightly different jeans] to dinner with the girls one night.

The blouse is pretty sheer so I layered a black lace bralette over top of my regular bra for a smidge more coverage.

My jeans were high-waisted so not much skin was peeking through! I ended up wearing these jeans and really really love the stretch of the material and color of the denim. I’m typically a size 4 or 6 or size 27, but always have extra length, so I just cuff them up once even with the raw hem.

These booties are a great color and are almost a cross between a wedge, skinny heel and block heel. The point is – they’re comfortable and easy to walk in! In the streets of NYC, no less!
