You guys! I finished another book! After re-discovering my love for reading last year, I had hoped the desire [and time] to read would carry over into 2020. It was a tad spotty at the beginning of the year, but nonetheless, I have another check mark on my reading wish list. Today, I’m sharing my Latest Read, Winter in Paradise!
Since I’m just getting back into my reading groove, I really enjoy an easy *beach read* so to speak. Elin Hildenbrand knows how to deliver just that and Winter in Paradise perfectly fits the mold.
I fell in love with her book, The Summer of ’69 last year and knew she was going to be a favorite.
Have you read any of her books? She has more than 20 others I want to get my hands on!
LATEST READ || WINTER IN PARADISE
The character and plot development, plus all of the intertwined love triangles keep you coming back for more chapter after chapter.
I also loved that one of the main characters lives in Iowa City, IA and hearing her describe the local coffee shop and her old, but recently renovated home on Church Street brought me right back to my college years at The University of Iowa. It’s such a cute, quaint town and loved that it was one of the settings of the book.
Although the majority of the book takes place on the island of St. John, there was that Midwest familiarity π
BOOK DESCRIPTION:
A husband’s secret life, a wife’s new beginning: escape to the Caribbean with #1 New York Times bestselling author Elin Hilderbrand.
Irene Steele shares her idyllic life in a beautiful Iowa City Victorian house with a husband who loves her to sky-writing, sentimental extremes. But as she rings in the new year one cold and snowy night, everything she thought she knew falls to pieces with a shocking phone call: her beloved husband, away on business, has been killed in a helicopter crash. Before Irene can even process the news, she must first confront the perplexing details of her husband’s death on the distant Caribbean island of St. John.
After Irene and her sons arrive at this faraway paradise, they make yet another shocking discovery: her husband had been living a secret life. As Irene untangles a web of intrigue and deceit, and as she and her sons find themselves drawn into the vibrant island culture, they have to face the truth about their family, and about their own futures.
Rich with the lush beauty of the tropics and the drama, romance, and intrigue only Elin Hilderbrand can deliver, Winter in Paradise is a truly transporting novel, and the exciting start to a new series.
CARVING OUT A BOOK BREAK AKA ME TIME!
My mom is an avid reader and after realizing her hand-me-downs were starting to pile up, not to mention my own growing list of book recommendations, I set a reading goal of 30 minutes per day.
Some days it was 10, other days it was zero. But at least the idea of picking up my book vs. reaching for my phone, was on my radar.
We were up at the lake in Minnesota last week and I decided I was not coming back home until I finished it!
I made a conscious decision to read every chance I got. One rainy morning and a boat ride later, it was done.
And would you believe, I started the sequel, What Happens in Paradise that same day after 4 days, I had read it cover-to-cover!
Maybe I’ll put a quick recap of that one together for you since the 3rd book, Troubles in Paradise comes out in October. It’s actually available for pre-order with Prime Delivery on the release date – October 6th! I can’t WAIT to dive into that one! Who knows, maybe I’ll read a couple others in between π
What is your latest read? I’d love to add some of your favorites to my list!
