If you’re headed to the beach this Summer and plan to take family photos then this post is for you! Sometimes its difficult to figure out what to wear, so I thought it might be helpful to share some inspiration with you! We took a family trip to Hilton Head 2 Summers ago to celebrate my parents’ 60th birthdays and my mom’s one request was a family photoshoot on the beach. We hired Photography by Anne and the photos turned out beautifully. Today I’m sharing White Dresses Perfect for a Beach Family Photoshoot + a look at our photos!
We stayed in a house at Sea Pines Resort and were just a few minute walk to the beach. You can see our Hilton Head vacation recap here.
My mom told everyone to wear blue or white and the colors worked out perfectly. I wore a white dress and put the boys in a mix of stripes and plaid paired with khaki shorts. Even if you end up doing a different color scheme, a white dress is the perfect starting point to build your family’s outfits around!

WHITE DRESSES PERFECT FOR A BEACH FAMILY PHOTOSHOOT + OUR HILTON HEAD BEACH PHOTOS
A white maxi dress ended up being the perfect option. My exact dress isn’t available anymore, but what I loved about it was that it was simple, but just enough detail that gave it a little something extra. It was belted and had ruffle trim on the sleeves and hem.
My mom went with white jeans and a blouse and my sister wore jeans and white blouse.
The guys wore a mix of shorts and shirts. My dad and Winston wore solid blue and Henry, Simon and Ted wore blue and white patterned tops. Target, Old Navy & H&M are great places to buy inexpensive basics for the whole family. J.Crew is another great retailer for coordinating outfits!
The colors and patterns worked so well together and the addition of the solid white really helped balance it all out.
It was so nice to be barefoot on the beach. One less accessory to coordinate!!
I’m so thankful we have these photos to remind us of our incredible vacation together. We have a ton of candid shots at the beach, at dinner and in the pool, but there is something special about having a professional take your picture when you’ve taken the time to coordinate outfits and plan for it. It was a little windy and very hot, but I love every single shot!

I’m excited to have entirely new scenery for our family photos after our move. Our photoshoots will no longer be in the parks or Forest Preserves. Desert sessions here we come!
