The second half of our California adventure was worth the wait! After our stay in Carlsbad, we headed south to La Jolla Shores where we spent a few days at La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club. We took a trip to California over the boys’ Spring Break this year. We started in Carlsbad and then worked our way down the coast. I had been to Carlsbad many years ago, but since it would be everyone’s first time in La Jolla, we were ecstatic to check it out.

If you’ve seen any of the posts I’ve shared on Instagram, then you’ve heard me say how truly, madly, and deeply we fell in love with the resort and area while we were there! It was a very special trip where many lifelong memories were made.

Below, I’ll share more details on the resort and what we did while there!

The view driving up to LJBTC is stunning. You immediately see the tall Palm trees lining the drive and then the golf course and tennis courts around the perimeter as you enter.

The Captain’s Club [a play area for the kids] is also out front and the boys spend a lot of time there playing tetherball, chess, ping pong and just climbing on the playground.

The play area was nestled between the pickleball courts and hole #1 so you would probably find at least a few of us in any of those locations at any given time.

But that’s only if we weren’t on the beach!

Aside from the tennis, pickleball, golf, and pool, we spent much of the days in the sun and sand! Our 2-bedroom suite was just a few steps from the shore.

We enjoyed a living room and kitchen with 2 full bathrooms [one with a tub/shower combo]. The accommodations were perfect for our family of 5.

The proximity to the beach was unbeatable! If the boys weren’t boogie boarding or building sand castles, they were tossing around a football or playing catch with a ball & glove.

We had our coffee on the patio and watched the boys play for a bit each morning.

Then round 2 on the beach each day was usually after lunch!

One day we stopped by the Cheese Shop [which came highly recommended by a friend of mine] nearby to get sandwiches and their famous oatmeal cookies to bring back to the beach for lunch.

It was a 2-minute drive or a 10-minute walk from the property. It was a popular spot so we checked out the area while we waited for our order.

After a few minutes, it was decided the boys were going to take surf lessons next visit!

We devoured our lunch on the beach and I will tell you, the oatmeal cookie lived up to the hype!

One night I had everyone get dressed up for a quick family photo on the beach before dinner!

Bringing my little tripod was the best idea to be able to snap these on a timer. I highly recommend ordering one before a trip if you don’t want to hire a photographer and don’t want to worry about having to ask someone to take a picture for you!

Simon captured a few of me in my dress. He loves to take pictures as much as I do!

We had reservations at the Shores Restaurant located at La Jolla Shores Hotel next door later that evening just after sunset.

The views were incredible and the food was delicious!

You can enjoy casual oceanfront indoor and outdoor dining from 9 am to 8 pm every day and
Brunch on the weekends. They offer a seasonal, Baja-inspired menu with farm-fresh ingredients from local providers and sustainably sourced seafood as well as a creative cocktail menu and local brew
selection to match.

Seafood for us and chicken fingers for the boys! We all indulged in the churros for dessert though!

There were so many wonderful activities available at the resort, that we had no problem filling our days & nights on the property.

Plus, the staff was extremely friendly and made us feel like family while we were there. I honestly could not have asked for a better experience.

As a tennis player who comes from a family of tennis players, playing on the courts at LJBTC felt pretty special too.

The boys don’t play a ton, but we do have fun getting out to hit the ball as a family every once in a while, so they enjoyed our court time there as well!

One of the neatest things was to see the many photographs of pro tennis players hung along the wall near the courts as LJBRC has hosted many of them over the years.

It was easy to see why so many professionals traveled from all over the world to play tournaments there.

It was just a spectacular place all around!

The property was beautiful and well-maintained and there was so much to do! As I said earlier, we absolutely fell in love and I know we’ll be back to visit.

LA JOLLA BEACH & TENNIS CLUB AT A GLANCE:

  • Located 12 miles north of downtown San Diego and 110 miles south of Los Angeles, the 90-room La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club is one of only two beachfront properties in the exclusive La Jolla Shores section of La Jolla
  • The Club has been the site of numerous amateur and professional tennis tournaments since the 1940s, attracting top tennis professionals from around the world
  • A palm-tree-lined drive leads from the Club’s private entrance to the porte-cochere and main lobby, passing by a wildlife lagoon, nine-hole, par-3 golf course and tennis complex.
  • With its original structure built in 1927, the Club resembles a picturesque Spanish-style hacienda, revealing an architecture of light-brown, adobe-textured exteriors, red-tile walkways and low-slung canopy roofs.
  • The rooms, many of which are only a few feet from the lapping surf at high tide, include standard hotel rooms, cottages, one-bedroom studios with kitchens, and one-, two- and three-bedroom suites with living rooms and fully equipped kitchens

It was truly an unforgettable experience! There is nothing better than salty skin, sun-kissed faces & sandy toes 😉

I’ll be back soon with all of my outfit links from the trip as well as the stops we made heading down the coast from Carlsbad to La Jolla!
