Sometimes the best getaways are the ones closest to home. Especially now that we live in such a desirable vacation destination! Since we normally fly to Phoenix to soak up the sunshine over Spring Break, now that we live here, we decided to take advantage of the boys’ 2 week Spring break and planned a short visit to a local resort. Today I’m sharing some snapshots from Our Phoenix Spring Break Staycation!
While we have plans to take FULL advantage of their much longer breaks in the Spring & Fall with all of the great getaway spots within 5 hours [hello, California], this March we thought a quick staycation was in order. All the excitement and vacation vibes, but only a 35-minute drive!

WHERE WE STAYED // PHOENIX SPRING BREAK STAYCATION
We booked a suite at the Hilton Phoenix Resort at the Peak. It’s close to home, 10 minutes north of downtown Phoenix, and overlooks the Piestewa Peak in the Phoenix Mountains.
It is the perfect kid-friendly resort option where everything is right there! It includes a 4-acre resort-style waterpark featuring a waterslide and lazy river which created 8 hours of fun in the sun each day!
KID-FRIENDLY ACTIVITIES ON & OFF THE RESORT:
- Lazy River
- Waterslide
- several resort-style pools including a baby pool + a small pool located within the guest suites towers
- water volleyball
- Mini golf
- tennis & basketball courts
- Piestewa Peak [2nd highest point in the Phoenix Mountains, after Camelback Mountain, and the 3rd highest in the city of Phoenix, AZ)
- Sloan Park – Chicago Cubs Spring Training
- Camelback Ranch – Dodgers, White Sox
- Castles-N-Coasters
- Chase Field
- City Center
- Goodyear Ballpark – Indians
- Phoenix Art Museum
- Desert Botanical Garden
- Phoenix Zoo
- Arizona Science Center
Normally it’s tricky in a hotel room with a toddler, but with doors to separate the spaces, we did just fine. The rooms were on the older side, but we hardly spent any time in there at all. There was too much sunshine and fresh air to take in to be cooped up inside.
March in Arizona is absolutely perfect!
WHAT WE DID // PHOENIX SPRING BREAK VACATION
Since our stay was short we only had a couple of days worth of itineraries to figure out. Our agenda mainly consisted of pool time and hanging out. Since we didn’t have a ton of time, we weren’t too adventurous.
The other nice part about our short stay was we didn’t have very many meals to plan either.
Unfortunately their main restaurant was temporarily closed along with our suite’s swim-up pool bar, but we managed to find a lovely little dinner spot, Phoenix City Grille just down the road!
We had a great meal, delicious drinks and a shared dessert split 5 ways on the front patio cozied up by the outdoor heaters. I’d be hard-pressed to say if that dinner or our PJ’s & pizza by the pool the next night was my favorite?!
Those kinds of nights end up being the best memories in my book 😉
We had a casual family breakfast at The Hole in the Wall which overlooks the pools and waterfall with a mountain backdrop.
We ordered omelets and the boys devoured pancakes and after we ate, they raced to the waterpark entrance to wait for the gates to open.
Good thing we got there when we did as we got early access and a great spot to plant ourselves for the long day ahead.
The boys were in heaven from the minute we stepped inside. They met friends, swam, played volleyball, raced up and down the waterslide and floated their way down the Lazy River. Poolside lunch both days was quick and convenient.
Besides, we couldn’t have pulled our little fish away from the pool even if we wanted to!
They rode the waterslide dozens of times and we floated on the lazy river making laps around the resort several times as well.
We took a mini break from the pool one afternoon for a round of family mini golf. T was in his element and working to groom his future foursome on the course.
Back to the pool for some more R&R.
I’m normally a margarita or a White Claw by the pool kind of girl, but I couldn’t resist a Strawberry Daquiri after seeing a few float by. I tried a mango one the next day and it was just as tasty 😉
I was thrilled to be able to sneak in quite a bit of reading while the boys played and basically read this entire book during our staycation. It was another great one by Elin Hilderbrand, the Queen of easy-breezy Summer reads.
See my list of latest reads here…
As I mentioned, our 2nd night’s dinner plans included sweatshirts, pajamas and pizza & wine by the pool. No one felt like cleaning up to go out, so we lounged and ate until it was dark.
We let the boys bring their books & iPads down to the pool because it was pretty cool that night and the pool didn’t interest anyone after our long-day swimming.
It was early to bed for all that night!
Our last day started with donuts and ended poolside. They really loved the waterfall that day and spent a lot of time playing in it.
It was gorgeous!
We left just after lunch & another round of Dippin’ Dots [we allowed them daily ;)] to head back home.
We didn’t venture too far off the resort and our stay was short, but it the best best few days of break. A chance to get out of the house and have some fun. Anytime the boys get to sleep in a hotel is a special occasion and they loved every minute of our staycation.
So much fun that the littlest had to be carried out each day!
There are SO many hotels and resorts in the Phoenix / Scottsdale area. We most certainly plan to do this again. We have lots to explore in our new home state and love getting the chance to do it as a family!
This one was definitely a staycation success!
I didn’t get the chance to use or wear everything, but you can read What I’m Packing for Spring Break here!
