Hello, friends! I am a little late, but I’m finally jumping into the Fall 2024 One Room Challenge! I’ve been planning to refresh our oldest son’s room for a couple of months now, but I had a few setbacks personally and couldn’t get started and introduce the project on time. But here we are! This is my 9th ORC so I hope you’ll stick around to see me bring this room through to completion! Here is this week’s post – Tween Boy Bedroom Refresh: Before Photos.

As I mentioned this is my 9th time participating in the One Room Challenge hosted by Linda from Calling it Home. I’m so thankful for these challenges every year to bring such an incredible group of creatives together in the spirit of tackling a room project in 8 weeks!

TWEEN BOY BEDROOM REFRESH // ORC FALL 2024

My oldest started Junior High this year and will be turning 13 next Summer. While I’d like to pretend like nonE of this is happening, he is quite clearly gowing up [standing at almost 5’9″ as a 12 year old!] We moved into this house in Arizona 3.5 years ago when we packed up and left Illinois. We pretty much dropped everything from all 3 boys’ old rooms into their new ones and called it a day! We did update our youngest’s room last year in the Spring 2023 ORC since he finally had a big boy bed and we wanted to remove his nursery rocker and a few other miscellaneous items.

So now it’s the biggest’s turn for a little room refresh and what better time to update his room in preparation for his upcoming teenage years! His last official room update was in our last house in 2016 when we gave him a proper Big Boy Room!

Today I’m going to share my plans for the space and what his room looks like right now!

This actually isn’t the real before photos since we made a couple furniture swaps earlier this fall. We replaced his nursery dresser [see it here] with a larger one and found a matching desk on FB marketplace. These 2 pieces kick-started the room transformation and here is what we’re left to deal with now!

Our older two boys have basement rooms but we’re fortunate to still get some good natural light in their bedrooms.

Oof! It pains me to share this messy room, but we are going to get it in tip top shape now! Its cluttered and busy so we are going to pair down his possessions and get some organization plans in place!
