Laundry Room Glow-Up // Part 1: Before Photos & Design Plans

Laundry Room Glow-Up - Laundry room design board - This is our Bliss #laundryroomrefresh

Hello out there! I am just getting caught up on life, post-holidays, and am finally ready to get back to blogging! I have some fun and exciting projects underway, which feels AMAZING since it’s been nearly 2 years since I’ve taken on anything around the house. Today, I am introducing a new project that I’m going to tackle this month. This particular project wasn’t exactly at the top of our list, but a leak in the wall occurred, and the universe said, “Buckle up. We’re going on a ride!” Read on for Laundry Room Glow-Up // Part 1: Before Photos & Design Plans.

For those who have been around here for a while, you may remember that for many, many years, I participated in the New Year, New Room Refresh Challenge each January. During this time, a group of bloggers and I would makeover a space and share weekly updates here on the blog. By the first week of January, we were all revealing a fresh and beautiful new room!

The challenge hadn’t taken place in the last couple of years, but at the start of this year, I suddenly felt the urge to work on something. I took a very long break from house projects here in Arizona, but lately I’ve been feeling inspired to work!

Okay, so back to the water issue we’ve been dealing with since the week of Thanksgiving! We discovered a leak in the wall behind the refrigerator, and after bringing in a mitigation & restoration company to clean and remove mold, they determined drywall needed to be cut out and removed in the kitchen, powder room, and laundry room. After industrial fans were here for a week drying out studs, they finally repaired the drywall, painted, and installed new baseboards.

All that to say, the laundry room was now a freshly painted blank slate, just begging for some love!

I’ve heard from so many readers and followers saying how much they miss my home content, so hopefully you’ll follow along this journey and find some inspiration to spruce up a space in your own home!

LAUNDRY ROOM GLOW-UP // THE BEFORE PHOTOS

Our laundry room is right off the garage and pretty small. We had one base cabinet with a countertop that we lost due to water damage, so there is now just an empty space where it stood next to the washer and dryer.

The cabinets are the same ones they put in throughout the house, but we had our kitchen cabinets painted when we moved in in 2021.

The walls were a medium tan color, which was also the paint the previous owners used throughout the house, but the laundry room was one of the only spaces we didn’t have painted with the rest of the house when we moved in! And since I had no immediate plans to work on the laundry room, I don’t even have a true before photo!

Here you can see when the drywall was cut out.

Now let’s take a look at something much prettier!

I’ve really missed creating these mood boards! I love dreaming up pretty spaces, and making these design boards is such a creative outlet for me.

I have some fun plans for this space and have already started working, so I plan to have another update for you soon!

Here are the items I plan to tackle:
  • paint walls
  • new baseboards
  • paint cabinets
  • install backsplace
  • replace the ceiling light
  • add a runner rug
  • buy cabinet or furniture piece
  • purge & organize inside the upper cabinets
  • add hooks for keys
  • determine if using fold-down drying rack?
