Easy Christmas Pinwheels for a Festive Holiday Appetizer

We fully embrace the eat, drink and be merry motto over here this time of year so I’m always on the hunt for yummy appetizers to keep in rotation over the holidays! I love anything easy, festive and a guaranteed crowd-pleaser! I’ve been making these easy Christmas pinwheels for years now and the red and green ingredients make it a perfectly festive holiday appetizer. And when it’s arranged in the shape of a little Christmas tree, its even cuter! Today, I’m sharing my Easy Christmas Pinwheels for a Festive Holiday Appetizer – a simple recipe you’ll absolutely want to whip up this season!

If you’re anything like me, then your calendar is anything but empty this time of year. It seems every single night of the week is booked! When I host, one of my go-to appetizers will always be this 5 minute Boursin Cheese & Jam recipe. It’s literally 2 ingredients and actually only takes 30 seconds to serve. While it’s a favorite, I do like to switch it up every now and then. And the holidays is the perfect time to make an easy and [slightly more] festive hors d’oeuvre!

Whether you’re entertaining at home or spending time at a loved one’s house, I’ve got a yummy appetizer that looks and tastes like Christmas!

EASY CHRISTMAS PINWHEELS FOR A FESTIVE HOLIDAY APPETIZER

Today I’m joining Krista of The Happy Housie and 15 other blog friends in another Seasonal Simplicity Christmas Edition post. We’ve all rounded up some of our favorite holiday appetizers to help you with all of your hosting and holiday planning this year!

These easy Christmas pinwheels are a tad sweet, a lot savory and a hint of tangy! The combination of the feta, onion and cranberry is absolutely delicious! All mixed up in a blanket of cream cheese and rolled up in a gorgeous green tortilla shell. You may even want to double or triple your batch!

INGREDIENTS FOR EASY CHRISTMAS PINWHEELS

• 2 blocks softened cream cheese
• 1 cup diced green onions
• 1 cup dried cranberries/craisins
• 1/2 cup feta crumbles
• 1 tsp. garlic powder
• 1/4 tsp. salt
• 1/4 tsp. pepper
• 1 package spinach tortilla shells [will use approximately 4 from package]

DIRECTIONS FOR EASY CHRISTMAS PINWHEELS

First. cut off 3 inches from the top of your green onions and set aside. Chop the remainder of the onions to go into the mixture.

Then, in a mixing bowl, add the blocks of softened cream cheese, diced green onions, dried cranberries [or craisins], feta crumbles, garlic powder, salt & pepper and mix until thoroughly combined. 

Next, take a spatula and spread the mixture out on a spinach tortilla shell. Spread it out almost all the way to the edge and keep it about a quarter inch thick.

This amount of mixture should fill about four of the shells.

After you’ve spread the last of your mixture, roll each one up like a burrito and then wrap each one up in saran wrap. Refrigerate for at least one hour and then unwrap each roll-up and cut into 1 inch pieces. You might not want to serve the ends of the roll-ups because there isn’t as much filling!

Then, place the Christmas pinwheels on a platter by arranging them in the shape of a tree! The size of tree will depend on the size of your serving platter. On my glass rectangular platter, I was able to arrange the feta cranberry pinwheels into 6 rows. You can also stack several more on top as a second layer!

Finally, take the bundle of green onions you set aside and place them under the pinwheels as the Christmas tree “trunk”!

So cute, right?!

The dried cranberries are just enough of a pop of red in the cream cheese mixture and look so pretty with the green onion and the green of the tortilla shell! These easy Christmas pinwheels are a great sweet and savory holiday appetizer with a little tang from the cranberries.

These festive bite-sized roll-ups are perfect for casual entertaining for the holidays. The Christmas pinwheels are such an easy finger food to make and serve for all your holiday parties and functions. They are always a hit whenever I make them and wherever I take them!
