A Statement Gallery Wall in the Powder Room

We are so CLOSE! I can see the finish line in the very near distance. The 8-week Spring One Room Challenge is wrapping up later this week which means I’ve got one more update for you before the big reveal. Come take a look at our freshly hung Statement Gallery Wall in the Powder Room!

My art was delayed and with baseball playoffs and Simon’s birthday last week, the gallery wall had to take a backseat. I did get it wrapped up just in time to give you a sneak peek a couple days ahead of the reveal!

A Statement Gallery Wall in the Powder Room

I always love partnering with Minted because they truly have something for everyone. The variety of fine art prints and frame options makes it so easy to find a favorite piece [or many] for your space. Ordering online is a cinch since you can customize your size, type of frame, mat options, artist signature and more. You can even choose to have your piece as a wrapped canvas option.

The black walls & wallpapered ceiling are bold on their own, but I decided to continue on with the boldness with a gallery wall of mixed frames and art pieces from Minted in hopes to create a gathered, collected look.

I was inspired by the desert & mountains in our new home state of Arizona as well as some beachy vibes from our recent trip to Charleston. There is one little straggler – an image of an old metal staircase on the backside of a Chicago theater building… a slight nod to our former city and our oldest son performed in a play earlier in the challenge and it felt like a special addition to the wall.

I’ve put together countless gallery walls over the years, but here are the basic steps I took to create this one in the Powder Room.

HOW TO CREATE A GALLERY WALL:

1 // Browse the Fine Art Prints on Minted.com and add the ones that caught my eye to my favorites.

2 // Narrow down my favorites by choosing pieces that have a similar color palette or that will work well together. I chose a mix of landscapes, abstracts, etc. but the color schemes are cohesive. I also made sure to tie in some colors from the wallpaper.

3 // Select larger sizes for my favorites and smaller sizes for everything else. I did a mix of black, white, brass & wood frames and chose them with no specific formula.

4 // Open art boxes when they arrive and decide which pieces to start hanging first. I chose to hang the 2 pieces above the toilet, then the 3 larger ones on the main wall. And then I filled in the empty wall space with the remaining smaller frames.

5 // Gather hanging supplies [hammer, nails, measuring tape] and get to work!

6 // Make any minor adjustments and then admire your statement gallery wall!

I know some people like to follow a more cumbersome tutorial for hanging art, but the truth is, I typically just start hanging! I trust my eye to get it right within the first couple of tries and not sweat it if I need to move something up or down or left or right. It takes practice, but in the end, they are just nail holes!

Thankfully, I had a helper 😉
