Family Adventure // A Memorable Road Trip to the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina
We took off right after New Year’s Day to enjoy some sun, sand & sea to help us decompress after the holidays before the boys returned to school. We had the opportunity to partner with The Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina for an overnight stay so I wanted to share the details of our visit with you today!
Read on to see images from the trip, what we did and more on the property!
In the Fall of 2024, The Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina underwent a $100 million renovation, completely transforming the property. Revamped guestrooms, meeting spaces, pools and more. The property is absolutely stunning. I wish the photos did it justice!
We had a lovely stay and everything was truly perfect. Read for all the details!
LOCATION & ACCESSABILITY
The Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina is just minutes from the airport and sits in the “heart of the harbor”.
With views of the Marina & the San Diego skyline, it doesn’t get much better than that. The property is close proximity to downtown, Gaslamp Quarter, the San Diego Zoo and Petco Park. Everything was close, but its stunning pool scene with marina views was where we spent the majority of our time.
We had already done some exporing while in La Jolla, so this leg of the trip was to relax & unwind before driving home and getting the kids ready for back-to-school after a long Winter Break.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
The property greets you with a grand entrance and a spectacular water fountain out front.
The stunning entrance and lobby draws you in and lead you to sprawling windows and doors to a patio overlooking the marina. Gosh, what a sight. The boys absolutely loved gazing at the boats and the large colorful dolphin fountain out back became a fast friend!
The layout of the pool was picturesque and one of my favorite hotel pools I’ve visited. The view was simply magical.
ROOM EXPERIENCE
Our room was just right for us – a King Bed with a sofa sleeper, small dining table and a private balcony with seating that overlooked the marina.
We stepped out to capture the sights morning, noon and night.
The room was great size with modern, coastal decor. And as a tired mom looking for some R & R, the sleeping masks & pillow spray were the perfect elevated touch.
DINING
With two on-site restaurants, Brewery X and Rumorosa & a pool-side Cabana Bar, there was something for everyone. We enjoyed cocktails by the pool and a casual, delcious dinner at Brewery X.
The Hot Chick [Jalapeno + Cheddar Waffle with Brown Sugar butter, the Burger X, Bacon-wrapped S.O.K. Dog with french fried onions & cheese sauce did not disappoint. We also indulged in chocolate cake & a homemade raspberry pop tart for dessert. So many fun and unique options to try in a casual, lively atmosphere.
Rumorosa features authentic Baja dishes and regional wines and careful crafted cocktails and agave spirits and provides a more up-scale dining experience. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and offer brunch on the weekend!
Sunglow is the family-friendly poolside cabana bar serving frozen drinks for all ages. Grab a drink and sip while in soaking up the sun or relaxing in the shade. I indulged in a poolside spicy margarita, which was divine.
AMENITIES
Hands-down, the pool & hot tub were the amenities we utilized the most. The property boasts 3 resort style pools [all are heated in the Winter] – the Lagoon Pool, Bay Tower Pool, Lanai Pool and Whirlpool. All were recently renovated!
Other amenities include:
- s’mores experience
- bike rentals
- fitness center
- yoga classes
- The Strand shop
- Family Fun Lawn games available upon request – Giant Jenga, Connect 4, tic-tac-toe, cornhole, and Ping Pong
- Water activity reservations available for kayaking and paddleboarding
FINAL THOUGHTS ON THE SHERATON SAN DIEGO HOTEL & MARINA
Overall, I rate this property a 10/10 and would 100% go back for a visit.
We loved our stay there and highly recommend it for families traveling to San Diego. Whether you’re road tripping like we do or flying in [airport is a stone’s throw] this property truly provides a kid-friendly, but luxurious experience.
And the views, well, I’ll leave you with a few more images to keep them fresh in your mind.
