I told you I was going PINK! You might not have guessed I was actually going to paint the *entire* vanity pink though, did you?! There is so much warm wood throughout our home. Every bathroom vanity, our staircase railing, main level wood flooring and even our kitchen cabinets. When I set out to update this Powder Room for the $100 Room Challenge, I knew one of the first things I was going to do was paint the vanity. It needed a fresh, updated look… I thought, “What if I painted it pale pink? So pale that even T might think it was white!!…”
Yes, that was it. We were going to have a pink vanity!
Mission accomplished!

Thanks to Erin from Lemons, Lavender and Laundry, I was able to muster up the energy and creativity to get crackin’ on this Powder Room. Head here to check out the before photos and the inspiration board I created last week for Week 1 of the $100 Room Challenge.
So, back to the pink vanity. I actually created my own shade of pale pink by mixing the color myself. I don’t have exact measurements of how much I used, but that is the beauty about creating your own shade of paint. You can experiment a bit until you get it just right. I suggest using a separate paint container to mix the paints in, so you don’t compromise the original color of the jar or can you are working with.
When I say a little red goes a long way, I really mean a few DROPS of red will absolutely get you there!
Before I knew I was participating in the $100 Room Challenge, I was given 2 containers of DecoArt Satin Enamels paint as part of their Blogger Ambassador Program. They sent one 8 oz. container in “Warm White” and the other 8 oz. container was “Deep Ruby” and went ahead to mix the two and create my own shade of pale pink! Since I’m now tallying costs of newly purchased items for the space and don’t want you all to think I was sneaking in a fast one on ya, I will count the value of the paint in my total in the reveal. These small containers go a long way and typically range in price from $8-12 each. And again, I only needed a few drops of Deep Ruby to create the pale pink you see on the vanity.
Now on to the knobs….
The shiny, mirror-like 90’s knobs needed to be updated, too. Since I’m on a tight budget for this space, brand new hardware would have been nice, but it definitely wasn’t a priority. I may replace them someday, but for now I thought I would have some fun with them and an idea sparked from these DIY Geometric Art pieces I made last year.
Do you remember them?
Well, I removed the knobs, stuck them into the back of a playdoh box and gave them a coat of gold spray paint. After an hour or so, I began drawing random intersecting lines across the top with a Sharpie.
Yes, a Sharpie! The lines are perfectly straight, but I was going for the same “hand-painted look” that I created in the black and gold art pieces. Now I can’t say how long these knobs will hold up, but since they are a temporary solution for now, they’ll work just fine! A coat of clear acrylic spray paint may have been a good idea to test out, but I didn’t think of it at the time. Live & learn!
You may also notice the walls are no longer YELLOW! We grabbed a leftover SW Repose Gray paint can from the Dining Room makeover and gave the Powder Room walls 2 -3 coats. The space is pretty small in size, so the leftover paint was all we needed to make such a dramatic improvement!
Thoughts on this countertop?
I honestly can’t stand the way it looks, so may try to update it somehow. On the other hand, I could play off the color which is what I was thinking I would do when I added this abstract art piece to the Powder Room Mood Board last week. What do you think?! I’d love to hear your thoughts!
Here is what we’ve accomplished so far:
paint the wallspaint the vanityupdate the knobsswap out the mirror- switch out the artwork
- update the light fixture
hang new hardware [towel ring & TP holder]place a new rug- refresh the countertop??
Although I didn’t share any pics today, we do have new hardware in place and hung a mirror we had in the last house, so we are making good progress! I still need to figure out what to do about the countertop situation and maybe get to work on some DIY artwork for the space. What do you think?! Come back by next week to see what we’ve been working on!
Can you believe we have a pink vanity? ha!

September 18, 2017 at 8:08 PMI’m going to be in love with your pink vanity!!!! And what a fun idea for the knobs. I was also hoping for new hardware one day, but much too costly for this makeover. I’m looking forward to seeing your full reveal!

September 16, 2017 at 1:15 PMWhen I first read “pink vanity”, I envisioned bright pink, but I’m loving the pale pink. Great idea to mix colors! Yay for getting that room painted and the vanity done. Awesome progress!

September 13, 2017 at 1:19 PMYou don’t have to include the stuff you already have on hand in your budget. I seriously love the color of your cabinets. I can’t wait to see what you do with the counter tops.
