Gold. Gold. Gold. It’s everywhere in home design & fashion accessories right now! The once “outdated” brass has made a come back and I am really getting into it lately. Remember back to my gallery wall & DIY campaign style frame posts? A little gold here and there adds a bit of interest to what could be considered a boring piece. Below are 2 super quick & simple DIY projects to add a little bling to ordinary objects: glass cylinder vases and a black & gold ice bucket.
DIY Gold Striped Vases
All you need is a glass cylinder vase (mine were from Goodwill @ $.49 ea) & gold adhesive tape (found here)
Start by wrapping the tape around the bottom of the vase. I laid my tape down about 1/4″ from the bottom. Work your way around the vase and when you reach the starting point, cut the tape and seal the end down with your finger. Repeat as many times as you like working your way up the vase. I did 2 vases with 2 stripes and 1 vase with 3. All 3 vases took about 10 minutes total to wrap with gold tape.
Here they are – I just need to add some pretty spring flowers and decide where to display them!
Sprucing up a Black & Gold Ice Bucket
I saw this ice bucket at my last stroll through Goodwill and decided it should come home with me for just $2.99. I noticed the handle was pretty dingy looking, but knew I had a quick & easy fix for it. First, I hand washed the bucket & lid and set it out to dry. Then I grabbed a tube of gold Rub’N’Buff (Michaels for $4.99), put a dab on my index finger and spread it out evenly across the handle, rotating it in order to cover it in its entirety. Let it dry for at least an hour before handling it. If you’ve never used this product before, know that a little goes a long way. It can be used on a ton of different products & is commonly used to spruce up drab metals or wood.
Here is the Before…
& After…
Notice the brightness & shimmer?! Now if we can just get back to the warm weather we had last week and ditch the snow we received yesterday, we can grab this ice bucket and some glasses & head out to the deck for some cocktails (mocktails in my case for a little while longer 🙂 ) I can’t wait for grilling, patio dinners & outdoor summer parties. Are you eyeing anything blingy & gold lately? Gold-dipped, gold leaf, gold everything? What do you think… will you be giving any old pieces the Golden Touch?
