“Can’t Miss Lime” by Valspar! She is bright & bold & adds such a dramatic pop of color to the room. I had it narrowed down to these two, but this one came out ahead. I am in love, so hopefully our new tenant will be as well 🙂
This past weekend my in-laws were visiting for Easter. We had a great time hanging out, catching up and of course putting the guys to good use! My husband and his dad were hard at work all day Saturday, except for sneaking in a quick round of 18. Their break was well deserved though. The top priority project for the weekend was finishing the nursery closet. Ted finished painting the closet the weekend before, so all he needed help with was putting together and installing the closet system / wardrobe frame and then a little customization of shelves and clothing rods for the little guy’s hangers. I think it looks fantastic. What do you think?
Before:
During:
Removed the doors & started painting…
Installed the clothing rods & shelves…
& TA-DA!
After clothes + accessories + labels were added:
We decided to go with a PAX closet system from IKEA. There were several width and depth options, as well as the ability to customize what goes inside (drawers, shelves, bins, etc.) We purchased the 19 5/8″ W x 13 3/4″ D x 93 1/8″ H frame and chose 4 drawers & 3 shelves to fit inside. I think it is going to work out just great. Now for my job…there is still plenty of work to do on my end… sorting through Henry’s clothing bins, laundry, hanging up clothes & of course styling & accessorizing the shelves with storage baskets and who knows what else 🙂
In other news, I am still chipping away at several other projects – nursery art for the gallery wall, a mobile, rocker pillow, recovering the lampshade and continuing to hunt for wall shelves and bins for the bookcase. The crib gets delivered tomorrow! Bedding is washed and ready to be put on. I am making good progress in the room, but have a feeling things will start to slow down these last 4 weeks. My energy level may skyrocket or drop in the blink of an eye. Going to keep trucking along for a little while though… Check back for more progress on this room and a few non-nursery projects along the way as well! Don’t forget to follow me on social media for sneak peaks and email updates, too.

January 26, 2015 at 3:00 PMHi! How did you attach the shelves to the outside of the pax system and then to the wall? This is a great idea for a kids room!

January 30, 2015 at 12:19 PMHi Tiffany! We drilled in (painted) pieces of plywood to the walls and then used the little shelf holder pegs on the sides of the middle unit. So the shelves actually sit on the pegs on the inside and the outer side of the shelves rest on top of the plywood pieces. I have been asked this question before, so am planning to do a post on the DIY shelving in the nursery closet & also for our new linen closet makeover. Thanks so much for reading!! ~ Rachael

January 8, 2015 at 6:58 PMOk, so this is just amazing! i want to do this but could i put five drawers in this? Or does it only allow for three? Did you just buy the hardware to put the drawers in from ikea? My husband has his clothes in bins in a bookshelf in our room and this is a totally awesome way to save space and get rid of his “clothes in bin” situation so he can have his own drawers!

January 9, 2015 at 8:03 PMHello! Thanks so much for reading and taking the time to comment! IKEA’s “PAX” wardrobe system is pretty great. We bought the frame, the drawers and the shelves, but you can customize it any way you like, i.e. more drawers & less shelves… no shelves at all, etc. Our drawers are from the KOMPLEMENT product line, which includes drawers, pull out shelves, wire baskets and more. I think you will be very happy if you decide to customize a wardrobe frame. The possibilities are truly endless. Please let me know if I was helpful at all and especially let me know if you have more questions! Thanks for reaching out and I hope you will continue to read 🙂 ~ Rachael

November 12, 2014 at 10:39 PMQuestion regarding the closet makeover and the PAX shelves on the outer part of closet that I believe you cut down to make them fit (the ones above the clothing rods). Could you still use another material from a home improvement store instead of buying these larger PAX / KOMPLEMENT Shelves from IKEA and still have it work right? I ask because our closet is a little longer and IKEA doesn’t seem to have a longer size matching shelve(s). THANK YOU!!!

November 13, 2014 at 5:16 PMHi Marissa,
I am sure you could use another (wood) type of material. The one thing I liked about the IKEA shelving pieces was that it was a smooth finish and not a piece of MDF or plywood that would need sanding or painting. Try the big box stores or maybe The Container store, etc. for other longer options. You could pick something out with any size of thickness and then cut the length and width to size! Please let me know if you have any other questions! Thanks for stopping by 🙂 Take care, Rachael
