DIY Chic Easter Art [gold foil edged bunny]

I realize Easter is less than 5 days away, but I just had to share my quick DIY Easter art. It is a bit non-traditional in the sense that it isn’t done in pastels or springy colors. Well, there actually isn’t any color. I went with classic me and designed something simple in black, white and gold, very chic, hmm?! The only “pop” is the use of a bold, but small print polka dot and the subtle gold edge. I really love how it turned out!

I started with the printable below. I found it here and then saved it as a jpeg to my computer. Next, I opened the image up and copy and pasted it into a word doc. I stretched out the edges to fill up the page since I knew I wanted to use it in an 8.5″ x 11″ frame.

I saved the word doc to a flash drive and had 3 copies printed at a FedEx copy store. 1 to use as a stencil, 1 as the actual art print and the 3rd as a back-up in case I messed something up! I think I am investing in a toner printer when our current printer kicks it. I make waaaay too many trips to FedEx :). If you remember back to my first gold foil project, then you’ll note that you must use toner (instead of ink) in order for the foil to transfer to your paper after going through the laminator.

I cut along the inside edge of one of the bunny images to use as a stencil and trace on my black and white polka dot scrap book paper.

Then I took another bunny, placed an 8.5″ x 11″ cut piece of gold foil on top of it and then slowly fed it through my laminator. (I am really getting some good use out of this guy!!) After it is completely through the machine, you can peel it off and are left with just the gold edge.

I also wrote out “Happy Easter” with my gold leaf paint pen and laid a piece of the Martha Stewart Decoupage gold trim in the middle. Both of those items were supplies from my DIY gold acrylic tray.

My entry way table was instantly styled for Easter with a couple of quick DIY’s using all items I already had on hand! That is definitely the best type of project, for sure.

It might be one of my favorite DIY art pieces to-date!

If you don’t want to get prints made with toner or you don’t have a laminator, I think you could trace the outline of the bunny with the gold leaf paint pen for a very similar effect. If someone tries this method, please let me know how it turns out!
