So this is supposed to be the last checkpoint before the big reveal, right?!! Say WHAAAT!?
Week 5 of the Fall 2016 One Room Challenge hosted by Calling It Home has arrived and you know what the tricky part about this week is? Well….on one hand, it’s like, “Yay!! I am so excited about nearing the end of this thing! I just don’t know how much to share with my readers!!”
On the other hand…I’m all, “Sooooo, HOW is this room going to be wrapped up, decisions finalized, styled, re-styled, photographed, re-photographed and posted in less than 7 days!?”
Phwew! I, along with the hundreds of other bloggers who decided to take the plunge and makeover a given space in our home in a very short 6 week period, am sharing the final update on our progress today. Final progress post because the reveal is next week!
So here is where we are at with our dining room with T minus 1 week to go…

DIY artDIY cornice boards[see Week 4!]- mini bar cart makeover? [Yes, it’s new, but I have an idea ;)]
One aspect of the challenge that I haven’t really touched on yet, are the struggles. This isn’t called a challenge for nothin’! Although we had a blank slate to start with and weren’t taking on / didn’t have the need to take on any demo / reno projects in our space, there were still a few moments of blood, sweat and tears. Well, minus the blood! T built the dining room window cornice boards and I upholstered them. What I didn’t talk about last week, was the OTHER window. Yeah, the one I didn’t show you. The bay window. THAT window, we worked on last weekend and I’ll tell you it was more or less, a 4 person job! Thankfully my parents happened to be in town for the weekend and they were summoned to help out!! The angles of the bay window proved to be quite cumbersome and there were a few things we didn’t think out very well in advance. Like, how the cornice should be built out deep enough so that our drill can fit inside / underneath the cornice in order to be able to secure it to the wall! I’ll be sharing more on the DIY cornice boards in a follow-up post, but so far, these, now beautifully hung cornice boards, gave us a run for our money.
Now, on to a few sneak peeks of the dining room. Do you want to see?
I’ll be the first to admit I’ve never been good at mapping out any of our gallery walls. I did a little bit of layout planning on the floor for our living room gallery wall in the old house, but completely hung the stairway gallery wall on a whim!
But for the ORC, I decided it might be a good idea to sit down with a pen and paper and sketch it out.
I started with this…
And ended up with these…
And if you thought I had 1 million googly heart eyes for the chandelier…
then let me tell you I have ALLLL the heart eye emojis for these guys over here on the sideline…
These sconces are so fabulous! Their design, material and subtle accent lighting they give off are exactly what I was looking for. You can’t go wrong with these babies!!
I decided to “stack” my frames to create this layout on either side of the window. I’ll go into more detail on these pieces and how I curated the look plus the diy details, too, in a follow-up post. I truly love how these stacked frames flank the window and fall under those magnificent sconces. I think I could put anything under those lights and love the look!
Well, I guess that wraps up another dining room progress check. Don’t worry if you’re stopping by for the first time today, you can get caught up below!
