Cozy & Neutral Back Deck Refresh Mood Board

Cozy & Neutral Back Deck Mood Board and Plans

It’s almost that time of the year when we can put all the cold and rain behind us and get our outdoor spaces ready for the warmer months! That is, if you live anywhere other than the Midwest! We’ve been gearing up for a mini Back Deck Refresh for a couple years now and today I’m sharing my vision. Here is my Cozy & Neutral Back Deck Refresh Mood Board.

Furniture, pillows, rug, umbrella, planters, fire pit & string lights will make this a wonderful outdoor space to relax & enjoy the warm weather months.

COZY & NEUTRAL BACK DECK REFRESH

Cozy & Neutral Back Deck Refresh Design plan - This is our Bliss

I’m not quite ready to share the before photos and certain details about the punch list, but I figured I might as well share the design since I know a lot of people are trying to spruce up their spaces as well!

There are some really great outdoor furniture and decor out right now and I can’t wait to bring my back deck dreams to life!

I said the deck refresh has been in the making for a couple years for two reasons:

1 | Our deck itself needs to be repaired / replaced.

2 | Our outdoor sectional cushions were not going to make it another season without being recovered. The fading, discoloration and mildew are beyond repair.

Well, this year is the year we are ripping out the old wood planks and replacing it with composite decking to solve the first problem. And the second problem was solved when I found these deep seat cushions just before we were about to pull the trigger on an entire new set of furniture. [I talked about it in last week’s The Friday Five.]

We certainly welcomed that cost savings!

After the deck flooring is finished, the refresh will be rounded out with new light strings, pillows, flower-filled planters and a fire pit table.

And here is the look I’m aiming for…

Cozy & Neutral Back Deck Mood Board and Plans

patio sectional || globe string lights || animal print rug || black pillow || gold pillow || b + w pillow || white planter || striped umbrella || umbrella stand || outdoor bar cart || acrylic beverage dispenser || wood citronella candle || “our happy place” sign || lanterns || fire pit table || gold plant stand || rattan chair || striped pillow || nail head patio stool

patio sectional || This is one we considered before we landed on new cushions. We have a metal frame and love the look. This one is sleek and neutral so any color palette would work!

globe string lights || I’ve been pricing out lights and reading reviews to see what lights to get. These 25 foot strands are under $20, have over 4,000 positive reviews and is a #1 best seller. I have 3 packs in my cart right now!

animal print rug || This rug is the same one I shared in my Rug Layering Ideas post and has been a top seller! It served as inspiration for front door / welcome mat areas, but I love it in a larger size for a deck or patio! We have a very similar animal print rug on our deck now and we plan to keep it!

black pillow || Love this diamond pattern oblong pillow! It’s under $13 and is a great pillow to pair with a larger one. Black is classic so will work with any colors or a neutral space, too.

gold pillow || Swoon! Love this pattern in that gold / mustard color!

b + w pillow || I stumbled upon this pillow cover and couldn’t believe the price! I’m considering a pair of these for the sectional.

white planter || Love this modern shape and the idea of a white planter to keep things feeling clean and fresh.

Flowers, ferns or other plants would look fabulous inside!

striped umbrella || I’ve always wanted a striped umbrella! I can’t deny my love for a classic black and white stripe and since our decor is all neutral, I know it would look amazing. And with that animal print rug? #yesplease

umbrella stand || We have a fairly new umbrella in a light linen color, but we bought this stand as a sturdier base option.

outdoor bar cart || The perfect entertaining and storage piece! We’ve had this cart for a couple years now and love having it to serve drinks on, store grilling tools, watering cans, etc. It folds up for easy storage when not in use and has held up great!

acrylic beverage dispenser || What is Summer without lemonade for the kids or a yummy Summer-y cocktail for the adults? This acrylic beverage dispenser is perfect for outdoor entertaining!

wood citronella candle || So pretty! Great to place on your outdoor coffee table, side table or dining table. Love the wood look!

“our happy place” sign || In our last house, I made a pallet wood sign that read “This is our happy place” and it proudly hung on the brick exterior as part of our outdoor oasis. Our patio was an extension of our walk-out basement and this little quote is nostalgic for me.

The metal sunburst design is darling.

lanterns || Love the natural woven material to add warmth and texture to the deck. Flameless LED candles would be perfect inside!

fire pit table || This is the one we went with! It’s black, a great size for our space and comes with a cover for the fire pit area to create a full table-top surface.

gold plant stand || Love these glam planter stands. Adds warmth to the space with a pop of gold.

rattan chair || These chairs are everything! They are pretty pricey, but so gorgeous!! This set is a more affordable option and I have heard great things about it!

striped pillow || A mini stripe to play off the larger striped pattern of the umbrella. The oblong shape is great for chairs or chaise loungers.

nail head patio stool || I’ve always wanted a cute garden or patio stool for the deck and this one is so pretty. I love the unique detail on the sides!!

So much outdoor goodness! If I don’t have a spot on the deck for some of this stuff, I’ll be tempted to get a few things for the front porch!

Are you working on your outdoor spaces right now?!

I’m going to finish taking the before pictures and then we’ll be finalizing our composite deck selection. As long as the rain holds off, we plan to start as soon as this week!

Stay tuned! I can’t wait to start spending more time outside in this space. Now that it’s mid-May, the weather is bound to start cooperating!!
