Living Our Best Lake Life || Quick Summer Getaway 2020

I think we can all agree we have a new found appreciation for the simple things in life once again. This year has brought a lot of stress and uncertainty, but it’s also been a reminder that life is short and its important to savor the little everyday moments and experiences we oftentimes take for granted. After 5 months at home, a change of scenery was exactly what we needed! Today, I’m sharing a few snapshots of Our Quick Summer Getaway || Living Our Best Lake Life!

It’s safe to safe to say we were allll getting a bit restless here at home. With so many weekend trips, vacations, weddings and other gatherings cancelled this year, we decided a quick trip to the lake might do the trick.

A short 3 hour drive from my parent’s and we are at my grandparent’s lake house in Minnesota. They own two homes on Lake Tetonka, so there was plenty of room for the 5 of us and my parents to join us for a quick trip. We haven’t been up to the lake since Simon was a baby almost 6 years ago.

We were excited for some time away from home to just be! Nothing on the agenda except for being on the water and a chance to rest, relax and recharge.

LIVING OUR BEST LAKE LIFE

There is something so nostalgic about spending time on the lake. When I was little, my family rented a home on a different lake in Minnesota each Summer. We spent our days in the sun, swimming, boating and fishing with a couple trips to town to shop or get ice cream and at night, we went out to dinner and came back to watch a movie or go out for just *one more boat ride*!

My dad is a true outdoors-man – with a love for hunting and fishing, as well as an incredible artistic talent as a wildlife artist. So these trips meant the world to him. A chance to share a piece of him with his daughters.

It was those trips each Summer that I remember so vividly and the feelings never seem to fade, especially when I’m back on a lake as an adult.

And now watching the boys on the water is the absolute best!

And I love seeing my dad with them, too 😉

We spent our days boating and enjoying the sunshine [with the exception of one stormy morning] and the boys couldn’t be happier just skipping rocks, fishing and tubing for the first time.

They boys were a little nervous at first, but before long they were asking for more speed!

After patiently watching his brothers out on the tube, Winston even took a turn with Daddy!

I simply enjoyed a change of scenery, watching the boys play, relaxing boat rides, reading [I finished this book] and sipping wine with my mom.

We found these super cute tees and thought happy hour at the lake was the perfect time to wear them 😉

After dinner, we played LCR on the deck [its a holiday and vacation family favorite] and watched the sunset over the lake. They truly have the most spectacular view! It was my absolute favorite time of the day.

As it gets later, it turns into a deep cotton candy sky.

Other than sneaking outside in the morning to read my book before everyone else was awake 😉

The trip was short and sweet, but it did the trick.

We all came home grateful for time away from home, as well as the chance to spend time with my grandparents at a place they love.

Already plotting down dates to go up again next Summer. There’s no way we’ll let another 6 years go by.

We really did live our best life up there!
