A Quick Escape to The Cassara Carlsbad // Our Family Vacation Recap

Family vacation to Carlsbad, California - This is our Bliss

Our family recently traveled to Carlsbad, California during the boys’ Spring Break to catch some waves and soak up the sun for a few days. We had the most amazing visit so I wanted to share our trip details with you! Read on for more about our stay at The Cassara Carlsbad & more!

It’s wild that we’ve been able to call ourselves Arizonians for nearly 3 years now! As a Midwest girl, I only dreamed of being able to take my family on regular vacations to the beach.

We are now only a quick 5-hour drive from the coast of California and the boys have quickly become fans of the West Coast vibe. I don’t blame them! It’s fantastic.

Since their Spring Break is 2+ weeks, we were able to split our time between home and away on vacation. We had the opportunity to spend 2 nights at The Cassara Carlsbad, Tapestry Collection by Hilton. We had a fabulous time and I can’t wait to share the scoop including some snapshots from our trip below!

A Quick Escape to The Cassara Carlsbad

I had been to Carlsbad one other time before back in my early twenties, before marriage and kids. I remember it being spectacularly beautiful and a place I’d love to visit again. Fast forward 15+ years later and here we are – right back in Carlsbad at The Cassara with my family!

Located in Carlsbad, The Cassara Carlsbad is in the entertainment district, within a 15-minute walk of SEA LIFE Carlsbad Aquarium and LEGOLAND® California. It overlooks The Flower Fields, the 55 acres of Giant Tecolote Ranunculus flowers which has become a popular tourist attraction, especially this time of the year.

Although we didn’t make a stop at Sea Life or Legoland this trip, we did venture to the flower fields [it was incredible, so I may have to write a separate blog post just to be able to share all of the gorgeous photos!], spent a day at the beach and many hours [day & night] at the pool.

The view was stunning!

Upon arrival at the hotel, we were greeted with a spectacular entry and lobby.

The vibe is luxury Meditteranean and they absolutely nailed the aesthetic.

Grand light fixtures, gorgeous tiled wall arches, large hanging chairs, and a cozy fireplace perfect for happy hour or a nightcap were a few features to note!

Our room was a Family Suite with an outdoor front entrance and an outdoor patio at the back. It included a separate bedroom with 2 twin beds which was perfect for the boys. A pullout couch & refrigerator/coffee station were in the center of the room, the bathroom was opposite the sofa sleeper and the primary sleeping quarters, including a king-sized bed and desk, finished off the space.

The accommodations were absolutely perfect for us.

The Karl Strauss Restaurant is next door to the Cassara and was conveniently located directly outside our room’s entrance. The food was excellent and they even had craft beer delivery service to your room! The main brewery is located in the Pacific Beach neighborhood of San Diego with more than 11 locations in SoCal.

The pool was surrounded by Palm trees, large cabanas for lounging in the shade, and multiple firepits which were always the place to be at night!

Overall, the property itself was gorgeous and our morning walks overlooking the Flower Fields didn’t hurt either!

We spent a full afternoon at Carlsbad State Beach which was only a 10-minute drive from the property. The boys soaked up the sand, salt and surf.

They proclaimed they’ll be riding the waves on surfboards someday, but for now they are sticking with the boogie boards.

After the beach, we headed to Park 101 just a mile away in the heart of downtown Carlsbad.

Park 101 was the perfect casual outdoor spot. It was a bi-level restaurant offering BBQ, burritos & cocktails, with games, picnic tables & a roof deck. They had Spring training games on the large TV’s picnic-style tables, a large firepit, and cafe lights strung all around.

We happened to be there for Taco Tuesday – the tri-tip steak and ancho shrimp tacos did not disappoint!

Wednesday was our departure date for the second half of our California adventures. We had coffee and took a long walk around the property that morning.

The boys, of course had to take one last dip in the pool.

Our stay was wonderful and I would highly recommend the Cassara if you’re looking for a family-friendly property in Carlsbad!

After check-out, we made a quick stop at the Carlsbad outlet mall before hitting the road. A variety of retailer options so there was something for all of us.

Off we went, but the fun wasn’t over yet!

Be sure to check back for my full trip recap of our stay at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club as well as our drive down the PCH and the couple of stops we made on the way!
