Our Family of Five Stay at The Westin San Diego Bayview (Rooftop Pool + Presidential Suite Tour)

Presidential Suite Westin San Diego bayview - this is our Bliss

We spent a portion of our boys’ 2-week Spring Break in San Diego this March and per usual, had the time of our lives! On most of our trips to San Diego, we automatically gravitate toward the beach—but this time, we wanted something different. We were craving a change of pace… a stay that felt a little more elevated, a little more city-centered, and a way to experience a different side of San Diego! Read on for all the details on Our Family of Five Stay at The Westin San Diego Bayview (Rooftop Pool + Presidential Suite Tour).

The Westin San Diego Bayview ended up being exactly that. Between the skyline and bay views, a rooftop pool the kids couldn’t get enough of, and a suite setup that made traveling with three boys feel easy, it completely shifted how we think about staying downtown.

It had that balance we’re always looking for—comfortable and family-friendly, but still polished and special enough to feel like a true getaway!

Why We Chose The Westin San Diego Bayview!

We visit San Diego every few months, but typically default to properties on the beach. This time around, we thought a city visit would be fun! Especially since we had the Savannah Bananas game at Petco Park during our visit!

We were craving a change of pace… something a little more city-centered where we could experience downtown San Diego while still keeping that relaxed, vacation feel for our family!

The Westin San Diego Bayview ended up being exactly that.

What drew us in:

  • A walkable downtown location
  • Views of the bay + skyline
  • rooftop pool
  • on-site dining options
  • A stay that felt elevated but still easy with kids
  • Only a 10-minute drive to the beach

It gave us a whole new way to experience San Diego—and honestly, we loved the switch.

The Presidential Suite: A Truly Elevated Stay

And when I say elevated, I mean elevated. The suite was located on the 25th floor and the views were out of this world!

The Presidential Suite at The Westin San Diego Bayview completely transforms the stay into something extra special—and for a family of five, the setup couldn’t have been more ideal.

What makes it stand out:

  • A spacious living area with sweeping bay and skyline views
  • A dining space with a piano, adding such a unique, elevated touch
  • A semi-full kitchen with a full-size refrigerator and freezer (so convenient for snacks, drinks, and longer stays)
  • Two separate bedrooms, giving everyone their own space
  • Floor-to-ceiling windows that bring the city right into the room
  • A spa-like bathroom that feels like its own retreat

A certain someone indulged in a bath soak more often than the rest!

Not to mention the suite had a piano – yes, a full-size piano — the boys couldn’t believe their eyes!

One of our favorite moments was ordering in-room breakfast and actually getting to enjoy it comfortably [in our robes, of course!]

With so much space, we were able to spread out between the coffee table in the living room and the dining table, instead of balancing plates on beds or squeezing into a small space like you would in a standard room.

It made the morning feel slower, easier, and honestly a little more special—one of those simple moments that ends up being a highlight of the trip!

For families or groups, this layout is everything. It gives you the ability to spread out, settle in, and truly enjoy your time together.

It’s one of those suites that makes the entire stay feel like an experience in itself. It was honestly one of the most fabulous rooms we’ve ever stayed in! The boys did NOT want to leave!

The Presidential Suite would be great for a couple’s weekend, girls’ getaways, special gatherings and more!

First Impressions: Light, Bright & Coastal Modern

From the moment we walked in, everything felt calm, clean, and elevated. We loved the bright & airy spaces, the modern coastal design and several comfortable seating areas to pause and regroup.

It instantly set the tone for a stay that felt both polished and relaxed.

Location: Everything Within Reach

The location of the Westin San Diego Bayview made everything easy.

We were just minutes from:

  • The waterfront
  • Little Italy
  • Coronado Island
  • Beaches and family-friendly activities

We headed out to Shelter Island one day for a sail excursion, and it was an unbelievably cool experience! Read more on our private sailing adventure here!

When you’re traveling with kids, having everything close by is a game-changer! We went to dinner at Filippi’s in Little Italy one night, and it was just under a 10-minute walk. After a couple of delicious pizzas, we walked next door to Nonna’s for some gelato and a pistachio cannoli.

We indulged in our desserts while walking around and checking out the area. The boys even got to catch a magic show on the street, and then ended the night by the fountain before walking back to the hotel. I personally loved all the music and cafe lights!

The Rooftop Pool: Our Favorite Spot

This was a great spot to unwind after a full day. The views were stunning! It wasn’t a large pool, but plenty of room for the kids to splash around and cool off.

The rooftop pool offers:

  • Panoramic views of downtown and the bay
  • Plenty of seating for both relaxing and keeping an eye on the kids
  • That perfect mix of energy and calm

It’s the kind of place where a quick swim turns into staying all afternoon or coming back for a night swim!

Dining, Drinks + Happy Hour (Don’t Skip This)

One of the most underrated parts of our stay was the on-property bar and dining experience.

  • A full menu that made it easy to stay in for meals
  • Elevated but approachable options (great for both adults and kids)
  • And the happy hour—so good! Every day from 4-6 pm

The apps and drinks during happy hour were such a standout. It felt like a little date-night moment without leaving the hotel, which as parents… we’ll take every time. Don’t sleep on the steak nachos! They were top-notch. The boys loved the soft pretzels with dipping sauces, too!

The Café: Easy Mornings (and a Breakfast Burrito Worth Ordering Again)

One of the things that made our stay so easy—especially with three boys—was having the on-site café open for both breakfast and lunch.

In the mornings, you have options (which is everything with kids):

  • A breakfast buffet the boys absolutely loved
  • Or a full menu if you’re craving something more specific

And I have to mention—the breakfast burrito was SO good. One morning, the boys got the skillet cinnamon roll, and we heard about it all day!

It made mornings feel easy, flexible and actually enjoyable (no rushing out the door to find food).

Whether you’re fueling up before a full day exploring downtown or easing into a slower morning, having this right on property was such a win!

Little Details We Loved (That Made It Feel Special)

Sometimes it’s the smallest details that make a stay memorable—and this property had quite a few.

  • The views from the elevator as you go up (so good)
  • Glimpses of the bay and skyline throughout the hotel
  • That consistent light, open feel in every space

Those little in-between moments added so much to the overall experience.

Final Thoughts: Would We Stay Again?

Absolutely.

The Westin San Diego Bayview was the perfect reminder that San Diego isn’t just about beach stays—it’s also such a fun, vibrant city experience!

For our family of five, it hit that sweet spot of:

  • Relaxing but right in the middle of everything
  • Elevated but approachable
  • Family-friendly but still stylish
  • wonderful staff and amenities!
