THE FRIDAY FIVE
ONE // OUR SUMMER MIDWEST TOUR
I know many of you were following along on our journey back to the Midwest on Instagram, but in case you missed it, we just spent the last 2 weeks splitting time between Iowa & Illinois visiting family & friends along the way. We started in Iowa and spent 5 days with my family, then made our way to Chicago to see my sister and explore the city with the boys. After a short Chicago stay, we spent 3 nights in various suburbs visiting friends and then ended our trip spending the 4th of July weekend with Ted’s family in Central Illinois.
We had the best time touring around and seeing everyone since we haven’t been back as a family in exactly 1 year since our move to Arizona. Spending time with family, showing the boys some of our old apartments, favorite restaurants, Wrigley Field and downtown tourist attractions and just catching up with dear friends was the perfect recipe for a trip back home.
Now we’re back home and soaking up the final 2 weeks of Summer! It sure does go fast when you have a modified year-round school schedule. But it’s hot and quite frankly, the boys are itching to go back and I can’t blame them. A little routine never hurt anyone!!
TWO // SUNGLASSES STORAGE / WALL DISPLAY RACK
I bought this sunglass display rack sometime last Summer or Fall and hung it inside the closet in my office. I always struggled with how and where to store my sunglasses so when the Guestroom / office in the new house had a good size closet with ample wall space, I decided to give this a try.
It holds 18 pairs and its working perfectly so far!
Have a spot for one in your house?! Grab it here.
THREE // THE NORDSTROM ANNIVERSARY SALE IS HERE!
Well, the #nsale sure did sneak up on me! With our 2-week trip under our belt, I have been prepping behind the scenes scouring the site for my favorite Anniversary Sale finds this year. I’ll have a full blog post ready soon, but for now, you can browse the collages I’ve created for a few of the sale categories. I’ll also do another blog post with the items I order and of course, try them on for you!
If you’re not able to shop the Sale yet, you can add your favorite items to your wishlist to save for when it’s your turn to shop!
I’ll be creating more collages, outfit guides & styling inspo with Items in the #nsale so stay tuned. You can always stay caught up in my LTK shop [I post here first] & IG stories.
Fall weather is pretty far away for us in the Southwest, but I love previewing all the Fall fashion in the Sale. It gets me excited for boots and sweater season, even if that season is much later & shorter than I’m used to!
See all of my past Nordstrom Anniversary Sale style guides here.
FOUR // FAVORITE SUMMER NAIL POLISH
White nails for the win! You just can’t go wrong with crisp white nail polish in the Summer.
I wrote a post on my favorite nail polish colors for Summer and it’s been pretty popular over the last couple weeks so I thought I’d share it here in case you’re looking for your next color. I ask for almond shaped nails now and have switched from gel to dip, but they are still my go-to colors this time of year.
See the post here.
FIVE // PRAYERS FOR HIGHLAND PARK
Another completely disgraceful tragedy took place earlier this week, but this one hit different. Highland Park is about 20 minutes from our old house and I know of so many people in the community who are hurting right now. And hurting deeply. As a mom, I am beyond sickened and saddened that I have yet one more normal, everyday activity to add to my list of things I now can’t do without being fearful for my or my little one’s lives.
A parade.
There are no words to describe the emotions I’m struggling with. I truly don’t feel safe anywhere and continue to question whether or not I go certain places, especially with the boys.
I am including a google doc with resources and ways to help the people in need in the Highland Park community. I’m still connected to several mom’s groups in that area and this resource guide has been floating around with strong requests to be shared.
Prayers for peace, comfort and healing to the families of the victims, those in attendance, and those who have found themselves traumatized after yet another shooting.
Hugs,
