The Friday Five

cozy sweatshirt with jeans - The Friday Five

We made it! Another week as Mrs. Mom and another week at home! We can do hard things, remember?! It’s time for your weekly dose of The Friday Five, where I share five random tidbits with you – something I love, something I’ve tried, something I want or any other ol’ thing that’s on my mind! The items are new and different every week! Grab your coffee or wine and snuggle in! And let’s celebrate the start of the weekend!

And if you’ve missed any of the past, you can get caught up on The Friday Five series here!

I’m always up for ideas – is there anything you want to see or hear about? Anything goes!

THE FRIDAY FIVE

ONE || THE PERFECT AT-HOME SWEATSHIRT

This sweatshirt is one of the comfiest sweatshirts I’ve ever put on! The inside is unbelievably silky soft! It’s very over-sized which I love, but if you want it slightly less baggy, then size down one. I’m in a size small with a ton of room in the length, width and sleeves!

Is it wrong to love being swallowed up by your sweatshirt though? Perfect length for leggings, too. Except this was the day I felt fancy so I put jeans on 😉

It’s still on sale for $22.47 so grab it before it’s gone! I have the “Taupe” color and it’s a really pretty deep tan / caramel color. I also ordered the neutral tiger stripe. So cute!

Are you guys over seeing all the loungewear? I’d love to know! If not, I have another post in the works about some of my favorites I’ve been living in the last couple of weeks – this sweatshirt is included!

TWO || OUR NEW DAILY THEMES

Everyday has felt a little bit like Groundhog’s Day, so in an attempt to switch things up, we came up with daily themes! Each day of the week is labeled as X and then we use our creativity to come up with an activity or experience that fits the theme.

Here is what we came up with:

MMake Something Mondaya craft, bake something, etc. Of course, these types of things are daily activities, too!

TTakeout Tuesdaydinner takeout from a local restaurant

W – Workout Wednesdaydo a family workout together [indoor or outdoor, but something other than a walk or bike ride around the block!]

Th – Throwback Thursdaywe watch an old school movie as a family. We thought it would be fun to introduce or re-introduce some of our favorite childhood movies to the boys. Last night we watched Little Rascals and we’ve hit Space Jam, The Sandlot and Rookie of the Year. Our list is quite lengthy so our regular movie nights might turn into Throwback nights as well!

F – Pay-it-Forward FridayToday, we are making a drop off to the school district’s donation cart to help feed the local children and families in need.

Sa – Supportive Saturdayanother takeout meal, supporting small businesses, making a donation, etc.

Su – Spring Cleaning Sundayall hands on deck! Time to declutter, purge and organize, as well as actual deep cleaning around the house!

The boys helped create these themes and we’re having so much fun coming up with new and different ideas for the week. It’s giving us all some structure, creativity and something to look forward to.

And we all need a little of that right now.

THREE || TRADER JOE’S HAUL

T has been our designated grocery shopper of the house, but since I hadn’t been out [driven a car] in about 18 days, I decided to do a quick grocery run to Trader Joe’s on Wednesday. I was absolutely blown away with the care, concern and caution they took to ensure the safety of their customers.

They instructed everyone to stand in line outside the store 6 feet apart and wait their turn to enter in order to keep the aisles from overcrowding.

Once it was my turn to enter, they opened the door, sanitized my hands and gave me a clean cart. While inside, I was usually in an aisle alone or with 1 other person. When it was time to check-out, they asked me to push my cart forward and stay behind the yellow line. After my items were scanned and bagged up, the clerk motioned for me to step forward to pay.

It was such a pleasant experience and I got everything we needed. Even some of our very favorites as they had a 2 item limit on quite a few things [that were sold out when I was there last during the initial grocery store frenzy]

Great job, Trader Joe’s! You are truly a top notch retailer!

Here is a “small” sampling of my haul.

Not only was I happy to have groceries after holding off from a run for 2 weeks, but I grabbed some Eucalyptus and flowers and separated them into 2 vases to bring some life in!

*side note: I’m realizing that almost every week in The Friday Five I share a Trader Joe’s item. I hope you don’t mind! In fact, I might even round-up our tried and true favorites in a post for you!

FOUR || BAKING IS THE NEW CARDIO

The kids and I have been in the kitchen! Cookies, brownies and this week, banana bread! We had an influx of overly ripe bananas, so we gathered our ingredients and made some mini loaves of banana bread. I’ll be sharing the recipe soon! It’s a slight modification to Martha Stewart’s 😉

Also, the Betty Crocker Triple Chocolate Brownie mix is life.

I’m not sure if I should say I’m sorry or you’re welcome 😉

FIVE || OUTDOOR RUGS

Now that the weather is starting to cooperate, I’m getting the itch to do a few outdoor projects. The first up and easiest to tackle is getting my front porch ready for Spring! I’m going to hang a wreath, get my bench ready, dream of the day I can get my planters ready [we usually say around Mother’s Day in the midwest due to late season frost and freezes] and possibly a new rug!

Here are a few I’m eyeing right now. And bonus – they’re all on sale for $11.69!

I’m already scheming up new ways to layer them.

Would you be interested in a rug layering ideas post?! It would be fun to put together!

Last year, we got our Front Porch ready and decorated for the first time other than a simple rug and flowers. Here are the 13 things we did to update our Front Porch. Now all we need to do is put everything back out and wait for flower season!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Food pantry drop-off, watching Ozark, starting a new book [I finished Little Fires Everywhere!] a couple Zooms with friends and more decluttering are a few things I’m looking forward to this weekend!

What about you?!
